“Amaryllis every time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

I've stayed at the Amaryllis on several occasions and couldn't be made more welcome! The owners are like old friends and could not be more accommodating. The rooms are spacious, immaculately clean and cosy, having stayed in several of them. It is centrally placed, close to restaurants, night life and all the main sightseeing attractions, most of which are in walking distance. The breakfasts are fantastic, certainly enough to keep you going for the day, especially if you have the full Scottish. I could not recommend this lovely guesthouse highly enough and will certainly be booking in again, the next time I'm in Edinburgh. A big thank you to the owners for always making my stay so enjoyable!

“Awful experience”

Our usual guest house was fully booked so after reading some reviews on this one we decided we couldn't go wrong. How wrong we were, the rooms were just adequate, the breakfast area cramped but not as cramped as the bathroom!! In the bathroom it was a tight squeeze between the toilet and wash basin! The food was terrible so we weren't disappointed that it was very small quantity. Would never darken this door again!!!

I cannot understand this review and looking through our sign in book am unable to recognise this listing. One only has to look at previous reviews especially about breakfast to see this is just some malicious individual. Interesting that no report of any of this disatisfaction was mentioned to any member of staff. Sorry I cannot apologise to you as this is just not true.

“Lovely B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

I strongly recommend this B&B. Nicely situated, calm, the owner
taking special care of every detail so a perfect place for someone
that prefers B&B to traditional hotel.

“Nothing special.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Travelled to Edinburgh with my sister for the Highland Show. First impressions were that the guest house was quite far out from Haymarket and central Edinburgh and travelling to these parts involved walking through rundown side streets (where we actually had a near mugging).

The house itself is very nicely presented with a lovely garden and interior. All rooms are en-suite however, on arrival we were unable to access any mirror or toilet facilities to freshen up and when we were able to access our room we found that the en suite door would not close and kept blowing open due to a draft in the room.

On the first night we stayed we found the noise of birds on the neighbouring canal very loud to the extent where it disrupted our sleep and kept waking us up. Perhaps this could have been prevented if double glazing had been used. Floor boards were uneven and could be felt through the carpet.

Breakfast was filling and freshly cooked as we came down to the dining room. Rooms were cleaned daily.

I would recommend this guest house for those wanting somewhere cheap to stay where sleep and location are unimportant otherwise I would say avoid!

So sorry you were unhappy with your stay. Hope you can make it back someday and have a better experience. We are unable to control the seagulls but we are located in the city centre about a 10 minute walk from Princes St. All rooms have private shower/wc hence you could not have access to them as you arrived at 9.30am and the previous guests were still in the rooms. You were reaslly nice girls and I wish you haaad told nme you were unhappy.Best regards Cathy
