I stayed here for a long weekend with my dad seeing the sights and watching the rugby. The hotel is in a great location only minutes from the bars and the shopping, and only a short walk to the castle. Its ideal for getting about town and visiting the sights.
The hotel itself has no parking which is a bit of a pain, as the parking they recommend is a 10 min walk away. Its also an expense at £17 per day. Not as expensive as London, but not cheap by any means.
The entrance and reception area are very grand, and the bar is also very lively and serve good quality food.The room was very well appointed and a good size with 2 single beds. It was spotlessly clean and kept that way each day. It had the usual tea/coffee facilities and some limited tv but all in all was a very nice room.
Each morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast in a very plush ornate room. The food was very tasty with a good selection of cereals and such and full English buffet.
I'd have to say i would definitely stay there again so long as the price was right.

Lovely hotel and great location - all restaurants and main shopping streets just around the corner! We had a room with windows to the busy George street - maybe I was just tight asleep in the very comfortable bed but wasn't bothered by any noises from the street.

I stayed here on business recently, the night after having had a very unpleasant stay in a so called upmarket hotel near Manchester and what a relief it was!

Outwardly and in the public areas and restaurant, The George oozes olde worlde charm and elegance and the service was in keeping with it, yet once I got into my room, I found it very contemporary and stylish and despite lots of potentially dust gathering shiny surfaces, my room and bathroom were absolutely spotlessly clean.

Being a light sleeper I asked for a quiet room, which is what they gave me and I slept like a top.

A really nice hotel slap bang in the centre of Edinburgh and the fact I got a very good deal only added to my sense of satisfaction.

Highly recommended.

My partner booked us into the George for one night as we were to go to Edinburgh Zoo thefollowing day, for a Christmas present.

The location is fantastic as it's right in the City Centre on one of the busier streets. There's no parking however so be prepared to pay for the multi-story and leave your car there (it's a bit of a walk).

The room was fantastic. Very spacious and the bed extremely comfortable, the bathroom also a very healthy size.

We never sampled the restaurant or the bar as we didn't get time.

The only complaint we really had was the lack of communication at the desk on checking in, the silence felt a little awkward, however this didn't spoil our experience one bit.

Great hotel. No idea about value for money as I didn't pay :o)
