“brill, but for one member of staff!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

I've stayed in this hotel before and have recomended it to friends who liked it as much as we did, this is why i booked it again for a trip with work,
Everything was great as before, staff very helpful......until checkout where we came face to face with a MAJOR DRAMA QUEEN!!! he was most unplesant, and instead of trying to resolve a problem he caused a problem!
I had pointed out that we had a lovely stay and that all the staff had been helpful and that i would be writting a letter of complaint. about the way he had handled things.....this he did not like, we were then shouted at and TOLD, not asked to leave the hotel right away! and just to go....oh did i point out that i was with disabled people at the time who also found this VERY stressful!! will not be recomending, nor returning to this hotel...infact will be recomending people NOT TO GO TO TE AGENDA!!!

“Great price, great hotel bit out of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

We paid £120 for a twin room for 2 nights including breakfast. The room was clean, very smart and had everything we needed. The bed was very firm but i slept well.Breakfast was great and we did eat at the hotel which was also good (and you get 20% discount with your room card!) They have their own car park so that wasnt a problem. There were a few minor things-the location,it is quite a long way from town there are busses into town from just outside the hotel but a taxi home on a late night was £15.
Food avalibility was also a problem we called to order room service at 8.30pm and depsite food being advertised as avaliable until 9pm we were informed the kitchen was closed (on a saturday too!).The shower curtain could have done with being changed. All in all this was a good choice for a place in Edinburgh i would stay again.

“Fantastic service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2010

Booked two rooms for just one night as a stopover on journey up to highlands. Missed car park entrance first time and had to go around block so keep an eye out! Rooms were fine for what we needed and we headed into city centre for evening - direct bus route to princes street took approximate 20 mins - taxi back around 10pm was £10. We then sat in the bar area for a couple of hours with kids (17&15) no problem which was a nice change. Breakfast was basic selection of cereals and fruit and cooked English - nothing to write home about but perfectly fine (barman did mention problems with chef leaving). The outstanding thing was the quality of service we received from staff at all times in all areas - they could not have been more helpful and welcoming - a real positive. Free Wifi was available but was a bit dopey in our room - fine in bar

“Definately Be Back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Just back today from The Agenda. To be honest I had tried to book The Holiday Inn along the road at the zoo but their prices were really expensive (£270 for one night B & B). The Agenda cost us £140 for two nights B & B which turned out to be excellent value for money. Won't go into long explanation other than to say - Staff, were friendly and helpful, Room was very spacious, warm and clean - Bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in and as with another revew I read yes it was two queen size beds pushed together but hey is this such a problem??? Linen etc was clean and fresh. Breakfast was absolutely fine - choice of cooked items along with cereal, grapefruit, fresh juice, tea and coffee. Very handy for getting into Edinburgh for shopping/castle etc and the bus service is excellent. Only downside was it was a bit wet as usual! But we cant blame the Agenda for that!! Would certainly go back again.

“Nothing hidden at this Agenda! Everything fine and we will return.”

When we arrived, we received a friendly welcome from receptionist Joanne. I had telephoned The Agenda to enquire about booking accommodation and she recognised me from that conversation. It was nice to put a face to the friendly and helpful voice on the 'phone.
As has already been commented on, the hotel does not have a lift, but the stairs to our room were easy to negotiate.
We stayed in Room 206 for our three nights. It was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the busy main road into Edinburgh - so there was some traffic noise. However, we quickly got used to it.
Being used to a king-sized bed at home, my wife and I found the double-bed a little small and somewhat firm to lie on - but, again, this was something we got used to. I must say, though, that many hotels are now providing larger, king-sized beds. So maybe the Agenda Hotel could consider upgrading their beds, to improve the quality of stay.
Having driven up to Scotland from North Wales, we were ready for our Evening Meal. The quality of food in the hotel's restaurant was excellent; the portions were plentiful and the meals were cooked to order and piping hot.
After a reasonable night's sleep, we arrived in the restaurant at 7am for breakfast. As the breakfasts are also cooked to order, there was about a 15-minute wait, until they arrived at our table. Again, though, it was worth the wait, as the traditional breakfast fayre of sausaage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans filled our plates. This excellent breakfast set us up for the day.
Our double room was clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee-making facilities, there was a plentiful supply of hot water and the power-shower over the bath was brilliant. However, the little wash-hand basin was rather impractical - but this is a minor point.
So, to sum up our views on the Agenda Hotel, I would describe the reception, restaurant, bar and cleaning staff as being exceptionally attentive and helpful. It is situated on a major bus-route into Edinburgh, with an all-day ticket costing just £3.00.
We enjoyed our stay at the Agenda so much, that we will definitely stay there again, on our next trip to the Scottish Capital.
