When we arrived, we received a friendly welcome from receptionist Joanne. I had telephoned The Agenda to enquire about booking accommodation and she recognised me from that conversation. It was nice to put a face to the friendly and helpful voice on the 'phone.
As has already been commented on, the hotel does not have a lift, but the stairs to our room were easy to negotiate.
We stayed in Room 206 for our three nights. It was at the front of the hotel, overlooking the busy main road into Edinburgh - so there was some traffic noise. However, we quickly got used to it.
Being used to a king-sized bed at home, my wife and I found the double-bed a little small and somewhat firm to lie on - but, again, this was something we got used to. I must say, though, that many hotels are now providing larger, king-sized beds. So maybe the Agenda Hotel could consider upgrading their beds, to improve the quality of stay.
Having driven up to Scotland from North Wales, we were ready for our Evening Meal. The quality of food in the hotel's restaurant was excellent; the portions were plentiful and the meals were cooked to order and piping hot.
After a reasonable night's sleep, we arrived in the restaurant at 7am for breakfast. As the breakfasts are also cooked to order, there was about a 15-minute wait, until they arrived at our table. Again, though, it was worth the wait, as the traditional breakfast fayre of sausaage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans filled our plates. This excellent breakfast set us up for the day.
Our double room was clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee-making facilities, there was a plentiful supply of hot water and the power-shower over the bath was brilliant. However, the little wash-hand basin was rather impractical - but this is a minor point.
So, to sum up our views on the Agenda Hotel, I would describe the reception, restaurant, bar and cleaning staff as being exceptionally attentive and helpful. It is situated on a major bus-route into Edinburgh, with an all-day ticket costing just £3.00.
We enjoyed our stay at the Agenda so much, that we will definitely stay there again, on our next trip to the Scottish Capital.
