Best Western Hotels are all independantly operated and so the quality can differ quite a bit. I booked this one on the advice of a company I was visiting on a business trip.
Check in was a bit slow. The receptionist (who seemed to be from Eastern Europe) was trying to help an American with some directions and spent several minutes studying a map without much success before giving up and checking me in.
I had a room on the ground floor. The layout of the hotel is a bit strange as to get to my room I had to cross a large dining area. The room was quite small. As with a lot of Best Westerns they building is old and has been adapted. The room was a bit chinzy but OK if you like that sort of thing. Wi-fi was free which was good but the "desk" in my room only just accommodated my laptop and left no room for a mouse. The bed too was a small double, OK for me but would have been a bit cosy if my wife had been with me. The shower was also compact (don't drop the soap or you might not get to pick it up) and had a large step up to get into it (again as the building has been adapted and the shower is high to accommodate the plumbing). It was OK until I had to get out and slipped because of the large step down.
I ate in the pub across the car park, which is owned by the hotel and food can be charged to your room there. It was fairly standard pub food but the staff were friendly. It was also a bit cold as the food is served in a sort of conservatory area which is mostly glass and is was close to zero outside.
OK all this sounds a bit negative but the bottom line is it was clean, had a comfortable bed (for 1) and was very good value. It's a step up from a travellodge type hotel and has a bit of character. I'd probably stay agian if I was looking for something in the area.
