We stayed at the Apex European at the same time last year and chose it based on its convenient location for Edinburgh Squash Club. The staff have been pleasant on both occassions and although more traffic is being diverted past the hotel due to the never ending tram works, we did not find the noise level too bad. The room was clean and cosy and there is a nice bistro/bar where a reasonable priced menu was available.This could not be described as a luxury hotel, but it is excellent value for money. Ladies wishing to shop will find it a decent walk to the shops however to compensate it is not far from the station when carrying your purchases back home if travelling by train.

I've stayed at the Apex European three times over the last two years and I keep coming back. The staff is friendly, helpful and the look and feel of the hotel is good. I've been put in rooms on the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st floors and haven't noticed a difference in noise between the floors. The noise level in itself it's bad, there's quite a few buses on the outside street, but I've always been put in rooms on the other side. The room itself is OK size, and there's a desk in every room that works great for laptops and such. The bed (queen size) is comfortable and the pillows are soft (maybe a little too soft). The bathroom is kinda where the issues lie, it's tiny. When you are sitting on the toilet your left arm is against the wall and your right arm leans on the sink. Don't really expect to share this bathroom with anyone else at the same time ;) Shower is OK, but it's a really high step to get in.

The restaurant at the hotel is pretty good. The breakfast rocks, full Scottish breakfast almost every morning! I've had lunch and dinner there as well and it's always been good.

I enjoyed my stay very much. It is very well located, even more if you happen to rent a car on the Thrifty car rental of Haymarket rail station. The staff is very friendly. Just watch out for the parking, it is paid!! I parked the car just near the hotel entrance at night, and when I woke up at 9AM I already had a police holding his pen... fortunately, I ran fast enough to take the car before he started writing the ticket :)

Perhaps a year ago, i would have thought this hotel was fine, however, i think after staying in some fantastic hotels all over europe for this price my standards have changed. The Apex is very average, the outside of the hotel and the lobby are very unappealing, the staff member who greeted us was quite rude, the room service was just awful! Do not order room service here! The beds looked lovely but were sinky in the middle and very uncomfortable. The location is not ideal, it is on a very boring street with no decent eateries close by at all. We dont mind walking, so it was fine, probably a 20min walk to Prince Street. I would not recommend this hotel to a friend or family memberor to you!
