“we are happy to return over and over again.”

Well I am ashamed after reading the plethora of excellent reviews for 2012 to date and it is only February not to have written a review before. I notice a lot the of reviews below are from new visitors but my husband and I first stayed in the Old Waverley in October 2005 for the weekend to celebrate his birthday and have been going back ever since - so maybe you might like the opinion of a pair of veterans as it were! As mentioned by many, the hotel is right on Princes Street in an ideal position for exploring the city but especially when travelling to Edinburgh by train - you are out of Waverley station and at reception in 5 minutes. Apart from the original birthday stay we now stay for our anniversary in February as a couple, for the Fringe/Tattoo in August with family and have even done a Hogmanay with, a then, teenage son!. On each and every visit the staff have been a credit to the hotel. We always stay DBB and the food has always been excellent, with fresh local produce (earlier reviewer mentioned lack of scottishness on menu, think you were just unfortunate with the menu at your time of stay). The hotel oozes character and the refurbishments we have seen over the years are sympathetic to the age of the building. I think the main things to remember though are, this is a 3 star hotel (if you want more there is a 4 or even 5 star hotel in the group) and, it is an old building, so will not have all mod cons. That said, we only ever feel as if we have had 5 star service from all the hard working staff, and we just love the character of the place so we are a little bias We are looking forward to our 4 night stay at the end of the month to celebrate our sliver wedding and I know other family members are looking forward to another tattoo weekend in August. So Old Waverley as far as we are concerned just keep on doing what you are doing and I am sure you will contiune to get many more return customers.

We have just come back from a two night stay in The Old Waverley Hotel we were given exceptional service. The location was fantastic and the rooms spacious very clean and comfortable. It was noisy outside due to a lot of work being done (nothing to do with the hotel) a set of earplugs was all we needed for a good nights sleep on the very comfortable bed. The food was excellent. I would highly recommend and will be visiting this hotel again.

Many thanks to this kind reviewer for their wonderful comments about our service and our food. The whole team were thrilled to read this review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Old Waverley hotel very soon. Do note that the Tramworks outside will only continue for a few short months and then will cease permanently.

“Fantastic Choice”

I spent three nights in the Old Waverley Hotel and could not have found better. The location was superb close to the train, buses and tourist sites. Our room was decently sized and well looked after. The restaurant and bar offered great food and the hotel allowed us to leave luggage for the day after check out. Staff were friendly and helpful and we received an incredible deal through the hotel website.

The only gripe...the world's thinnest pillows!

I turned up really early and they were kind enough to let me into the room earlier as well. The room was very comfortable, warm and clean. I will definately use them again as the price is very good bearling in mind that you are in the centre of Edinburgh.

I am glad we were able to accommodate this guest with an early check in and my thanks to them for their kind words about the Old Waverley. I would urge all future travellers to note that we operate only to serve and will not stick to rigid check in times just for the sake of it. If we have the room available - then its yours, regardless of the time of day. If we do not have a room ready when you arrive - I guarantee that you will have it by 2pm at the latest, and we are happy to store your luggage for you until then.

“Weekend away with family”

I have just come back from a fantastic break in Edinburgh with my Mum and my Aunt (both in their 60's). Edinburgh is beautiful and staying in this hotel made it even better. Location is perfect for getting around to almost anywhere and the staff couldn't do enough for you. Room was clean and tidy, very warm (windows to open if too warm) and fantastic view of the castle from our room. We stayed in room 416 and would do so again.

My only criticisim would be due to the age of the building the lift was small (holds 4 people) and you do have to walk a few steps before reaching a level where the lift could be used.

However, I cannot recommend this hotel enough and can't wait to come back again.

Another superb review and my sincere thanks to this guest. I am glad you enjoyed your time in Edinburgh and I emphasise with your frustration over the size of our lift. We have looked at the lift situation countless times, but, as the guest mentions, we are severely restricted with what we can do by both the listed nature and the age of the building. However, we have not given up - watch this space!
