“Warm & Romantic Old style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This hotel location is perfect central of the city only walking distance from shops and nice environment. Our room was in 3rd floor so we need energy coz no elevator but when we entered the room I was happy. The room was big and bed was comfortable. The bathroom was ok and clean. the hotel managed professionaly. We were lucky to meet one warm and helpfull staff. The Breakfast was ok but since I don't really enjoy Scottland food so I don't want to comment too much. Over all I was satisfied with what I paid since hotel rate in UK was not cheap.

“Very nicely located, good breakfast, clean, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

-very nicely located (centre/carlton hill/Castle is 10-12 min footwalk away)
-clean rooms with very friendly service (young service personel) every day
-more quiet than noisy (not much traffic outside but windows are a little too old to hold back the noise), had room on top level
-breakfast very good (different sorts of cereals, juices, cheese, joghurts, with additional freshly made eggs/sausages/beans/tomatoes) though it might happen that you would have to wait for a free table
-counter service 24h, very friendly and polite

“Fantastic hotel, great weekend break.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We had a massive room which was located downstairs (seem to remember it being room 105). We paid a little extra for a delux double and were definitely not disappointed. The room was huge with a massive comfy bed, and a comfortable seating area with a sofa and table. Good tea & coffee making facilities with variety of tea, coffee, and shortbread. Complimentary water, coke, and snacks provided in the minibar!
The bathroom was probably the biggest hotel bathroom i've seen. A lovely big bath/shower, and double sinks.
We asked if we could have room service breakfast and they were very willing to oblige at no extra cost which is unusual! We had the same choices as the normal breakfast menu and it was always piping hot and fresh on arrival.
An ideally situated, clean, and comfortable hotel with great decor. It is located on a quiet street which is only a short walk form princes street, the castle, and all of the other attractions.
We will definitely be returning.

“Romance in Edinburgh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

The hotel was very well located in the center of the city so you can walk easily to all the nice places. It had a very nice boutique style romantic atmosphere. The rooms are very nice decorated but the romantic style bed was awful to sleep in but nice to look at. Our bathroom was clean but very small for two persons. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A good stay but make sure you get a nice bed! Good price-quality.

“Lovely Quirky Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Stayed for one night at the Ballantrae Albany as the weather for driving home was too bad. Glad we did, all in it cost only £70 for a double room including an excellent continental breakfast. The hotel is central but quiet, welcoming and cosy. I hate hotels that are standard boring and have no character...couldn't say that about this one. Our room was vaguely gothic with black and burgundy furnishing with two gorgeous big black and white chairs. The bathroom was spotless with a good shower. There was tea and coffee making facilites and a flat screen tv. The room was not too warm which I considered a bonus as I hate overheated stuffy rooms. Breakfast was in a lovely room, you could have a full cooked breakfast...I think there may be a small charge for this. We had the one included in the price which was great...fresh fruit, croissants, selection of cold meat, cheese, cereal and lovely pastries.Would definately go back....particularly in winter for the sheer cosyness of it!
