“Visit to see Calcutta Cup in Edinburgh - 3rd - 6th April 2012”

This was a very well located hotel and our room was lovely. We also enjoyed most of the meals that we ate at the hotel.

However, there was confusion about the dress rules with us being given different information on what was suitable attire for lunch when we were on a rugby match package and going to the match afterwards. Further, no information about the dress rules had been provided when the visit was booked and given that we were on a sightseeing and rugby trip it was luck rather than judgement that we had suitable clothes with us which complied with the rules.

The TV in the room was not very modern and difficult to use.

Staff generally were friendly and helpful. We would like to make particular mention of the three receptionists we encountered during our stay; the first two were very helpful and enthusiastic (a blond girl and then an Irish girl); however, the third (who was a large young lady) was somewhat surly and made our checking out an uncomfortable experience.

This spoilt what was otherwise an excellent stay.

We went up to Edinburgh to see the Scotland v England game and stayed at the RSC. An excellent place to stay. The staff are friendly and very helpful (special mention to Laura on reception and thanks for your help). Good breakfast (any place that serves kippers is fine by me!). Our room was very quiet and comfortable and the location for the centre and the New Town was hard to beat. If you are not eating at the club we recommend the Cumberland nearby for excellent beer and the Baille pub in Stockbridge for good beer and food. Well done to everyone there and we would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms 14 and 15 at the back of the RSC are quiet

“Nice hotel with a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed here for New Year for 3 nights, this is a very traditional and clean hotel and is well located for cocktail bars, restaurants and George Street where all the designer clothes shops are. The staff are very polite and helpful and the road that the hotel is located on is quiet. There are a few down sides to the hotel, the rooms are very hot and therefore I feel that energy is being wasted as we had to open the window as we did not seem to be able to turn the radiator off. We had one breakfast where we had to wait a long time for our breakfast and when it arrived it was cold but the other two times the breakfast service was good. My only complaint is that the scrambled egg and salmon is very salty and therefore unpleasant. The other issue was the bed, we expected a double bed and got two single beds pushed together. One of the mattresses was so hard that I had trouble sleeping as I was uncomfortable. The TV was also very old and the alarm clock even older, so some investment in this area would be a good idea. Apart from this it was a very nice place to stay, ideally located for all local attractions.

“Special place to stay in the heart of Edinburgh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

5 minutes from Princes Street, the hotel is well placed for the delights of Edinburgh. We stayed just before Christmas and had a wonderful time. The staff are friendly and helpful and do everything they can to help. Breakfast was well presented, hot and tasty and dinner was excellent.

The bed was comfortable and a nice large room was a welcome surprise
Maybe a bit more expensive than other places I have stayed in Edinburgh, but on the whole worthwhile......
