“excellent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

i have stayed at the glenora on a number of occasions now and have found the staff to be very helpful, especially wendy, the manager there.
The times we could not have breakfast, due to early buisness commitments, the staff would do us a take away extra early ie bacon/sausage sandwiches, fruit, drinks etc and really went out of there way, which was greatly appreciated by us.
The rooms are warm, clean and very comfortable.
Location great and the 20 min walk into the castle is ideal to have a drink/meal on route, all in all a cracking little hotel.

Room Tip: family room great value for money.

“Good value for money”

A great little hotel, just 2 minutes from the train station and bus stop. Single room was small but had everything you need, ensuite shower etc. It was spotlessly clean, fresh smelling. No noise from outside or from other rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this, especially for a late booking when the prices are reduced (whereas a lot of other local hotels increase prices for short-notice bookings).

“Elegance and convenience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I stay in hotels and guest accommodation on a regular basis while away on business and for leisure breaks and have to say that The Glenora is amongst one of the best! The position is ultra convenient for travel with Haymarket station just past the end of the street (less than 3 min walk) and both local busses and the Airlink service from the airport a mere 60 seconds away. The interior is stylish and elegant without any fussiness and you can see that the services of an interior designer have be sought.

Bedrooms were lovely and warm, which in January was much appreciated and the bed was very comfortable too. It was also a nice touch that when we first went into our room we were greeted by the table lamps casting a welcoming glow and the TV on. The stylish and modern en-suite facilities were spotlessly clean, yes the enuites are compact but there is more than enough room to do what you NEED to do which, realistically, is all that's required, you don't live in the bathroom do you! As we were flying up to Edinburgh I again appreciated the range of nice quality complimentary toiletries that was provided as it meant we didn't have to use precious baggage weight and space by bringing our own. face flannels, cotton balls and buds were also thoughtfully provided too.

The selection and range of foods on offer at breakfast was impressive, well cooked and presented. Loved the addition of fresh homemade scones (still warm if you go down early enough!) along with smoked salmon and cheeses. Those that don't feel up to the full english/scottish breakfast but still wanted something cooked are catered for with the addition of Eggs Benedict, French Toast and syrup or Porridge.

We found all the staff polite and efficient. During our stay we encountered a small problem with one of the ceiling lights in the ensuite and this was dealt with straight away without any fuss and an genuine appology offered for any inconvenience caused. Excellent service on this score! While there we did have a peek into the basement family room and found it to be a delightful very spacious bright room which is well planned and laid out for a comfortable family stay with a much bigger ensuite with a large family shower compartment too than other rooms. Absolutly ideal for a family as being in the basement means the kids are free to run about and be a bit noisy without parents having to worry about them disturbing other guests.

To sum up I can wholeheartedly recommend the Glenora to all and should we be lucky enough to visit edinburgh again we will not hesitate to place a booking with them.

Stayed at this hotel on 28th December. ALthough our room was on the top floor it was very comfortable and had a compact toilet/shower room which was spotless as was the bedroom. Appeared freshly decorated. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was lovely. Hotel is two minutes from the nearest bus stance and Haymarket Rail Station is across the road. 15 min walk to Princes Street. Would certainly use this Hotel again.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor (no Lift) and was adequate, very comfortable and clean. Cannot revi...

“What a let down ! !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Having got stuck in Edinburgh due to the windy weather and stranded at Haymarket Station I found this hotel on the internet. Rang and they had a vacancies for £70 a tad expensive for a b&b but as they were literally across the road from the station the location was ideal. I arrived to a strong smell of disinfectant that put me off slightly. The receptionist was dressed rather shabbily and although her manner was very polite she didn't really speak English. I eventually got her to understand I had rang and booked a room to be told 'we have no rooms' so after 5 minutes of trying to explain I had spoken with a gentleman not 5 minutes earlier and he had said they had a room available I gave up. I searched a bit and booked at the Links hotel for £70 and had a fabulous room, dinner and the best service ever. So I would avoid this like the plague shop about there are far better rooms to be had for your money ! !

'This person has never stayed in our establishment and is therefore in no position to rate it. It is a real shame that people like this are out there and that they are allowed to post malicious and untrue reviews on this site. This person clearly has nothing better to do with their time and should be truly ashamed of themselves.'
