TRIP - Family trip for 2 night stay in Edinburgh 2012.
LOCATION- 5 Minute walk away from Waverley train station.Go to back of train station(not rose st side) turn left up hill.Continue to traffic lights , cross rd and hotel is on right hand side about 200 yards past lights.
CHECK IN - We had no problems , but guess this would be a nightmare when very busy.Check in staff are also barman/waiter/cleaner etc.
ROOM - Booked a family room which had an uncomfortable mattress and daughters bed was a pull out sofa bed . Again very uncomfortable.Tv with a number of channels.Ask for more pillows as you only receive one per guest upon arrival.
En suite - tidy enough no toiletries etc so remember to take shampoo etc
Our room was at the front of the hotel and was a nightmare.Room only has single glazing, or if double the worst i have ever seen.Rd is also cobbled and makes a small car sound like a tank.Front of hotel is on main Rd and is very busy all hours of the day with both vehicles and loud people.Top tip - ask for room at back of hotel.
WI FI - was available but very expensive £5 for 1 hr or £10 per day. If can, pre book if cheaper for duration of stay if you require wi fi.
FOOD - Booked breakfast both days at £7.50 per adult and kids eat free.was buffet style breakfast which regularly ran out of sausages / bacon etc so had to wait with plate whilst restocked.toast machine /coffee machine and cereals if required. As stated above staff do a number of jobs so other priorities take over whilst you standing at hot plate looking like a you know what.
TIP - Get up earlier than 9 am or you will have along wait for breakfast as area is so small and staff are busy doing all jobs.Hotel was"not" full when i was there and still very busy so will get worse when full and at weekends.
NIGHT TIME FOOD - Usual style pub grub , but ran out of quite a few things advertised.Personally - would eat elsewhere as cheap in most places.
BAR AREA - This is very small and is also dining area.Ran out of quite a lot of stock whilst there which was quite annoying.Remember if you are taking the kids the bar shuts around 3 am. Can only begin to imagine what this will be like at weekends when full of stag/hen parties.
STAFF - I found them ok to be honest ,but due to number of jobs each staff member does I can see why people would find them rude as described in other reviews. As bar is so small you will have to queue for some time when hotel is full. Only 1 barmaid could fit behind bar.
POSITIVE - Very central to city centre(about 5 min walk)and very cheap for location of hotel. If you want a cheap break then this hotel is for you.If looking for comfort/peace etc then I suggest you should stay elsewhere. For a night or two this hotel is ideal - just follow room/dining tips.
