We stayed here for two nights in February 2012 and enjoyed a thoroughly indulgent and romantic stay. We stayed in the Sempill Suite and enjoyed the very plush, dark and romantic rooms, the feature bedroom with it's four poster bed and heavy velvet drapes being the most outstanding delight!
Breakfast was lovely, plentiful and good quality, delivered and set-up in the green dining area. The fruits and orange juice were particularly fresh and yummy.
The service was unobtrusive, exclusive and very pleasant.
The suite did suffer from a bit of noise from 'them upstairs', the suite above was equally adorned with solid wood floors with characterful squeakings and groanings which was no problem on a beslippered foot (which are supplied along with fluffy white robes & gorgeous toiletries) but didn't lend itself well to late night totterings in high heels. Not a criticism of the hotel at all, just an unavoidable by product of older, wood floored accommodations and slightly inconsiderate guests. We would look for a suite without upstairs neighbours next time.
Just a note of advice for future guests, too. It got very hot in the bedroom so definitely set the thermostat a bit lower than you normally would - oh, and turn down the heating, too :)
On the whole a lovely, romantic, expensive and very indulgent hide away which I would highly recommend. Enjoy!
Room Tip: Sempill suite is stunning, dark, sumptuous and warm - great for a winter break
