My husband and I stayed here for New Years 2012 and we really liked it. I'll be brief about the construction issue since it should be over soon but it does put a damper on the high end experience. The lobby "trailer" was fine in my opinion, the real down side was the two elevators to get to our floor and the extra walk around the whole big block to get the the temporary door (esp in the harsh, windy winter). The staff went above and beyond though and the little touches like baskets of umbrellas (a must there) were great.
That aside, I highly recommend the club floor with the free breakfast since it is very good for a hotel club floor breakfast and the club room is very nice and modern. The room was modern and wonderful, the bathroom especially. We had once room without the castle view and then changed to one with the castle view and the view is really spectacular. Not sure if it is worth the additional price each night but for a free upgrade, worth moving for. We didn't do the spa but it looked nice, I would say 3/4 star nice, not 5 star - Four Seasons, Ritz, nice. (but we just looked). The location is great but in the dead of winter, I would have personally preferred to be closed to the Old Street strip like where the Hotel Missoni is since we were up there every day anyway and less walking in harsh conditions. We were there for the Hogmanay festival (highly recommend!!!) and cabs were the most expensive I have ever seen in all my travels, outrageous ($15USD for a 5 min drive). So, walking distance was key that time of year and the Sheraton was just ok for the sights we wanted to see like the Museums, the Old town streets, Harvey Nicols department store, stops for the on/off tourist bus. For theater, it is ideal as we saw a symphony right across the street! Overall, would recommend this hotel, we would stay here again esp in Spring/Summer and try to get a good deal on it.
Room Tip: Modern room for sure, castle views are very nice if you value a good view (our other room had no vie...
