“Hostess prepared to go the extra mile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

My two daughters (adults) and I spent three nights at this B&B while in Edinburgh for a family wedding / girls weekend. Stay complicated by last minute wedding changes and ankle injury for one daughter. Karen Macdonald was fantastic in helping with delivery/collection of loaned wheelchair and arranging transport and advising about how to visit local attractions. House has seen better days but being gradually updated. Rooms spotlessly clean with personal touches, breakfast outstanding and every request met with enthusiasm. Royal Mile walking distance even with a wheelchair, and local buses are wheelchair friendly and cheap. Excellent value for money.

“Clean and friendly. Good value.”

Ms. Macdonald is a friendly and welcoming hostess. Very clean bathroom shared by 3 rooms on 3rd floor but we were only guests up there so had the area to ourselves. Nice breakfast area and very accomodating service. Adam Drysdale House is some distance from the Royal Mile but the area has plenty of good restaurants & a grocery. This area has MANY B&Bs all up and down the street. I think we made a fine choice though I haven't stayed at any other guest houses in Edinburgh.

“Simple but Sufficient”

Due to family circumstances, we were desperate for 2 nights stay in Edinburgh at the most busiest time - Edinburgh festival. We were lucky enough to find a room at Adam Drysdale after calling the guest house directly. Karen, who runs the place was so accomadating and friendly.
We stayed in 2 different rooms. One was spacious with a good sized bath ensuite (on 1st floor), whilst the other was much smaller with a shower ensuite (ground floor). Both rooms were clean, with towels, tea/coffee and kettle and drawers/wardrobe space. The beds were comfortable and everything was sufficient to our needs.
Breakfast was between 8 - 9 and is served in the dining room by Karen herself. There was juice, cereal, fruit, yoghurt as well as cooked breakfasts which was very good. You could choose from a menu - from traditional to kippers and other smoked fish combinations. Karen served us with generous amounts of tea and toast throughout breakfast, always with a smile and some light conversation.
Although, Karen has only taken over the place since 7 months ago, she has done a great job in providing the basic needs that made for a lovely stay. Warm hospitality, good service, clean, enough facilities for a short stay and excellent location in the city.

“Lovely place”

My wife Debbie and I stayed at this B&B for two nights in April and we had a lovely time.
Karen made us feel really welcome and her knowledge of Edinburgh is astounding.
The room was lovely and we had no problems sleeping in a very comfortable double bed with sparkingly clean white sheets. Our breakfast was also lovely ( I opted for the full scotish ) and all the food was of a high standard.

We would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to our friends.

“Comfy, friendly and pleasant stay”

I needed a B&B for one night in Edinburgh and chose this one by chance; at my third attempt at knocking on doors, this one answered. A friendly welcome and happy to show me the room. The B&B is apparently under new management/ownership and Karen is making a very good go of it. The room was clean, tidy and well equipped; the breakfast was excellent and Karen was friendly company through breakfast. This is a two star B&B, a good one.
