We stayed at the Missoni for a birthday celebration, and it was a fantastic place to stay.
Check in was quick and easy and the staff were very friendly and helpful in describing the local area to us. The room was a good size: not enormous, but certainly big enough for the two of us. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the bathroom was stylish and not at all cramped.
We had a spa treatment, which was very pleasant, and we also had the afternoon tea, which was amazing.
Breakfasts were generally really good, with prompt service and good food. The eggs benedict was lovely, as was the cooked Scottish breakfast. We didn't try the Italian restaurant in the hotel.
All in all there were only a few negatives. I'm a bath person, so every time I was in the massive shower cubicle, I couldn't help but think that they could have fitted a bath in there! The shower was a good shower, however, with a big monsoon shower head. I didn't miss a bath too much; it wasn't a problem, and I knew there wouldn't be one, but I couldn't help but think about how luxurious it would have been! The other negative was the breakfast on Sunday morning. It was really very busy, and the waiting staff were obviously struggling to cope. People were queueing out the door, and the pancakes, when they came, weren't very nice. So if you are here on a Sunday morning, don't leave it till 10.30 to have breakfast, come down a little earlier, and you'll be just fine.
Those minor negatives were far outweighed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, who really make this place what it is. I'd recommend Missoni to anyone going to Edinburgh, and hope to go back one day.
