“A lovely hotel”

We stayed at the Missoni for a birthday celebration, and it was a fantastic place to stay.

Check in was quick and easy and the staff were very friendly and helpful in describing the local area to us. The room was a good size: not enormous, but certainly big enough for the two of us. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the bathroom was stylish and not at all cramped.

We had a spa treatment, which was very pleasant, and we also had the afternoon tea, which was amazing.

Breakfasts were generally really good, with prompt service and good food. The eggs benedict was lovely, as was the cooked Scottish breakfast. We didn't try the Italian restaurant in the hotel.

All in all there were only a few negatives. I'm a bath person, so every time I was in the massive shower cubicle, I couldn't help but think that they could have fitted a bath in there! The shower was a good shower, however, with a big monsoon shower head. I didn't miss a bath too much; it wasn't a problem, and I knew there wouldn't be one, but I couldn't help but think about how luxurious it would have been! The other negative was the breakfast on Sunday morning. It was really very busy, and the waiting staff were obviously struggling to cope. People were queueing out the door, and the pancakes, when they came, weren't very nice. So if you are here on a Sunday morning, don't leave it till 10.30 to have breakfast, come down a little earlier, and you'll be just fine.

Those minor negatives were far outweighed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, who really make this place what it is. I'd recommend Missoni to anyone going to Edinburgh, and hope to go back one day.

“Style but no substance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

A short stay in a Missoni Hotel and I'm quickly reminded of my age, cynicism and lack of a cosmopolitan background. All the staff are young, non-UK and slightly camp and cheerfully stripy. Each hand picked and groomed to exude style over substance and intelligence but the are still polite, professional and helpful. Stripes are also a big part of the message. Good design is fine in small doses, it doesn't work so well for me when it's repeated Warhol style to the point of being nonsensical and meaningless, it's dazzling but as unattractive as newsprint. After a while your head aches and you long to be away from the funky ambient music and great red washes and just sit in somewhere disguised as normal in dull magnolia and old leather. Having said that the bed was very comfy, the room warm and the breakfast slickly produced. What else do you want from a hotel? I just wouldn't want to be paying their facilities management company's bills or be trying to copy their business plan, it's all high maintenance stuff and the edges are beginning to fray.

“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

From the moment we arrived at The Missoni the service was excellent. A kilted doorman greeted us, took our bags and welcomed us to Edinburgh. He delivered us to reception to check in whilst giving tips on what to see during our stay. He gave us a map and chatted about things to do and the ways to see the city. We were early to the hotel (10am) and although checking time is 3pm, the guy at the desk said he'd call us if we could have the room earlier.
We left our bags and headed to get our bearings. The hotel location is perfect, just off the Royal Mile, a short walk to the castle. We headed down Royal Mile and wandered across the bridge taking in the sites and browsing in shops. The guy from the hotel called around an hour after we'd left and told us our room was ready. Great!
The room was great, floor to ceiling windows with views of St Giles cathedral .We had a twin room and the beds were very comfy. At the Missoni, the mini bar and snacks are complimentary which is a lovely touch. The spacious rain shower is great and the heated floor an added bonus, along with the Missoni robes and slippers.
We had breakfast included so could choose from the buffet AND have something from the kitchen. I opted for the Eggs Benedict and my mother chose the Scottish Breakfast, both were delicious and the service faultless.
We had drinks in the bar on two occasions and both times the staff were delightful and attentive.
I will be returning to Edinburgh and will book the Missoni every time.

“Great Stay”

My partner and I stayed in Hotel Miissoni in May 2010. This was our first experience of a 5* hotel and it didn't dissapoint. From the fabulous location to the extravagant furnishings this hotel is top notch. Complentary Missoni robes to wear during your stay and Missoni furnishings throughout make this a luxurious one. The bathroom was great with a power shower, good layout. Comfy bed and decent sized tv. Hotel is situated on the Royal Mile and is walking distance from all main attractions.

“Paper thin walls”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I had really high expectations to the hotel after reading reviews of it, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

The room had paper thin walls so we could hear people in the halls and the room next to us VERY well. You could be talking normally and still be hearing every word being said.

Do order breakfast before you arrive because it's very expensive if you dont.

We did order room service twice, and the first time they never got our order, so we got 2 glasses of wine for free which was really nice. The second day we also got a card where they apologized, along with some chocolate, which was very surprising and very nice.

I would probably not stay here again tho, because of how thin the walls were!
