We also found Elizabeth and Norman's home through another B&B owner during the peak tourist season and we're glad we did. The breakfast was top-notch -- coffee, tea, pastries, cereal, yogurt, PLUS a hot meal made to order (Elizabeth's a great cook); the room was spacious and clean with lots of extra personal touches, like a hot water bottle for cold nights, extra umbrellas, kettle, books and toiletries, should you need them -- like staying in your grandma's house. Most importantly, the house is just a 5-minute bus ride or an easy 15-minute walk from downtown/Royal Mile/Princes Street and just around the corner from the Dean Gallery and the Modern Art Museum (both must-see) in a residential neighborhood that's safe and quaint... kind of rounded out the whole Scottish experience. At 89 pounds a night, it was a little steep for us Americans and our weak dollar but well worth it, and it was actually cheaper than most other B&Bs that we looked at. Would return in an instant!

First of all I want to say that I envy you: if you are reading these reviews you are probably planning your trip to Edinburgh ( I wish I were you!). Speaking of that I would recommend you to stay at the beautiful B&B The Lodge. We ended up there through another B&B, because we stayed in Edinburgh during the crazy days of the Festival in August, everywhere was fully booked and we didn't have any other chance.
But after all we were lucky and we really enjoyed the place. It is a beautiful, tidy and safe B&B in Dean village. Beeing both retired interior designers, Liz and Norries have created a cozy and original house: it is like a peaceful corner of Britanny, floral, rustic and clean that fits well in the setting. They are both excuisite persons and Liz is a superb cooker. Her cooked breakfasts were deliciuos and she layed the table with attention to every single details. Last but not least breakfast was served in the elegant dining room while the stereo was playing classical music.
The only negative aspect of the house is that the rooms we saw are twin and not double; When we booked we didn't pay attention to that, but we prefer to spleep together. Had we known that, we wuoldn't have changed place! If you are a couple, be prepared to sleep in two separate beds. Maybe they can work out a way to join them...

We are so fortunate to have found this amazing Bed & Breakfast! Staying with Liz and Norman was actually one of the highlights of the time we spent in Edinburgh - and that is quite a statement, considering the unique attributes of this wonderful city. Located just around the corner from the Dean Gallery, it is a pleasant walk to the City Centre.

We used both rooms to accommodate our family of four, and the arrangement was perfect. We had complete privacy, and the beautifully decorated, spacious rooms were also equipped with every imaginable amenity to make our stay even more comfortable.

The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful! It was, by far, the favorite meal of the day for all of us. Liz is a superb cook, and in addition to the fabulous hot breakfasts, she makes available beautiful fresh fruit, a variety of cereals (including traditional museli), yogurt , and a variety of juice and hot beverages. Her french press coffee is sublime!

Each of the two mornings we stayed, Liz and Norman were delightful, gracious hosts, and a font of information not only concerning Edinburgh, but Scotland as well. Our primary goal was to experience the people and culture of Scotland on this trip, and we are indebted to them for sharing so many wonderful stories and insights with us. They were also generous with information concerning sights to see, trails to travel, and restaurants to visit.

Again, we are so grateful to have found this wonderful gem of a B&B in the city of Edinburgh. It will be a wonderful experience for you, too!

Of the 10 B&B's that we stay at on our trip this was the best. Liz & Norrie were great hosts and they went out of their way to introduce us to their city. The Lodge is about a 15 minute walk to the downtown shopping area or the bus service to downtown is also good. The room was spacious and well layed out with a nice decor and all the amenities a weiry traveller requires. The breakfasts were all excellent and we even had a try of Haggis and Kippers. The Lodge is a top notch well run facility that was a joy to vacation at.

We stayed in one of the twin rooms. It was clean and spacious with comfortable beds. The cooked breakfast was lovely & little extras in the room like tea/coffee and shortbread were much appreciated. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about places to visit and things to see as this was our first time in Edinburgh. A perfect location - walking distance to the city centre. We've booked again for the festival in August!
