I was recently in Scotland for a much needed vacation. I initially stayed at the Lodge for 4 nights (in fact I was there at the same time as Vicki Yorks -hi, Vicki!) and returned there for two additional nights at the end of my trip. During the course of my travels I stayed at B&Bs in Oban, Portree, Kirkwall, Ullapool, etc. but nothing came close to the warmth and hospitality of Norrie and Liz-as I soon appreciated the Lodge set the 'gold standard' of B&Bs for me in Scotland and likely in my own country! I will never forget their simple kindness-from the first day I was there when Norrie drove me into town to pick up my Fringe tickets after learning that I was suffering from jet lag to Liz leaving me glasses of fresh water every evening on my night table (and shortbread!). The room itself is beautiful, my bed was comfortable and the shower nice and hot. The house, built by Norrie, is full of wood and cheerful. Breakfasts are incredible..."lavish" does not do them justice...fresh fruit, vegetarian and traditional haggis, yummy bacon/sausages/porridge and Norrie makes the best scrambled eggs that I have ever tasted. Both Liz and Norrie are helpful, genuinely interested in the comfort of their guests, willing to offer suggestions regarding museums, shopping, etc. They made me feel cared for and it was great to return home each evening (frankly early morning!) to peace and quiet after the madness of Fringe. While the house is not in the heart of the old city, the local buses were easy to use and at night I sometimes just hopped cabs that were not terribly expensive. Nellie is totally cute and made me want to get a dog! Overall, I enthusiastically agree and echo Vicki's words..."an Edinburgh gem".
Room Tip: I stayed in the double and loved it! The house is located in a residential neighbourhood and is ver...
