My partner and i arrived to a very warm welcome after a long flight from New Zealand. The rooms were amazing, large, clean and had everything we could ever need. The breakfast was gourmet and filled us up for the rest of the day. I definitely reccomend staying at 23 Mayfield, we will be back next year.

“Very good B&B”

I stayed here for two nights between Christmas and New Year. We had room number 3 on the ground floor, that had just been renovated. The room was lovely and had everything we needed for our stay. There was a lovely big bed, flat screen tv, tea and coffee making facilities and bottled water provided. There was also a tv in the bathroom but unfortunately we couldnt see it when we were in the bath or hear it when we had a shower, so a bit pointless really. The breakfasts were superb and I'd highly recommend the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. The B&B is a bit out of town but we didn't find this a problem one bit and enjoyed the walk everyday. The B&b is about 10mins away from Arthers seat, so we would walk via here. There was also a lovely pub on the way called The Salisbury Arms that we had a few drinks in. We didn't eat there but the food looked good and it had a lovely open fire. All in all a great stay and I will definitely stay here again in the future.

“A great stay in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

My fiancee and I had the opportunity to travel to Edinburgh for Hogmanay this year. We spent four days at 23 Mayfield in the Grand Jacobean room. The room itself was quite large with a comfortable king-size bed. The room does face the front of the house and the street below but noise levels were never an issue; this B&B is in a good location in a quiet area of town. The only drawback to the room itself was the size of the shower, which is quite small.

The service was excellent, the room was always clean, and the breakfast was good. One of the nice aspects of this B&B is that you can come and go as you please; in this way it was much like staying at a nice hotel.

A taxi ride from the hotel to Princess street or the Castle will take about 5-10 minutes and will cost you around $10 US. Walking is an option but the weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared with an umbrella.

Overall a great experience and if I am staying in Edinburgh again I would not hesitate to stay at 23 Mayfield.

“Good choice for bed and breakfast in the capital.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We chose this bed and breakfast after reading all the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. And it is a good bed and breakfast - there is secure parking, rooms are comfortable, breakfast was good and the staff are friendly.
Most rooms are upstairs although there are a few on the ground floor. Our room (9)had a view to Arthur's Seat and was quiet as it was at the back of the house. The room was spacious with a large bed, flat screen TV, small wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The mirror in the large bathroom had a demister which was a nice touch.
i only have two small quibbles - the table lamps on the bedside tables are overly large and no use whatsoever for reading. And 23 Mayfield is quite a bit out of the centre of town. It costs approximately GBP10 for a taxi into the centre although there are buses ( exact fare required) going to and from the city at regular intervals. Bus stops are all within a few minutes walk of 23 Mayfield. There are also several restaurants ( Italian, Thai, Indian and pub grub) within ten minutes walk.
A good choice for a comfortable bed and breakfast.
