Travelodge, Strathmore Ave, Dundee, Scotland is great for just a one night stay,or two at most.
They have very attractive room rates, I paid just 19 pounds, about CAN$30, per night, but there is a catch, it is like staying in a shoe box. The bedroom measured about 9' x 11' and the bathroom 4' x 6'. When you place a queen size bed in a room that size you only have about 3' space between bed and walls, thus our room was only equipped with one chair and small desk on which stood the coffee machine,a small shelf with 6 coat hangers below, and a flat screen TV wall mounted. No closet, cupboards, drawers etc. to permit you to unpack your suitcase. Similarly the bathroom contained nothing but the basic shower stall, toilet and basin with limited counter space.
The location was good as a base from which to travel having good access to major highways and downtown Dundee, while at the same time being located in a quiet part of north Dundee. A restaurant is on site with limited menu but adequate and convenient for a short stay.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful except for their enforcement of the 3:00 pm check in time. When one has traveled for the best part of 24 hours and arrive at 2:00 pm you do not appreciate being barred from your room, or being told that for 10 pounds extra your room will magically become available immediately.
In summary, Travelodge has a good idea to cut frills and reduce prices but for the long stay guest they have gone too far. Eliminating pools, spas, fireplaces etc. is fine but not removing all storage space. Would I stay here again? Certainly but only for 2 nights max.
Room Tip: Ask if they have any larger rooms available, I did not ask.
