We recently visited this guest house for 1 night on our way up to the north of Scotland. Kirkcroft was easy to find and is very close to the railway station. I did wonder if we'd be disturbed by trains all night, but I didn't hear a thing during our stay. We were shown to our room by one of the owners, which was quite large with a very nice en-suite bathroom. We had a flat screen TV with freeview, tea and coffee facilities (with biscuits!), a hair-dryer and probably a few other things. There was also shampoo and shower gel which was a plus as I'd forgotten to pack any.
The owners (I forget their names) were really helpful and told us about the area and what there was to do nearby. We were only passing through but we still had a few hours to fill. They even offered to let us eat a take away in the dining room if we didn't fancy eating out. We decided to take a drive out and returned fairly late, so having a key to let ourselves back in was a big plus.
The bed was very comfortable and we both got a good night's sleep. Breakfast the next morning was truly excellent. I can never resist a full English (or in this case Scottish!) breakfast and I think this one was the best I've had in a long time. There was also cereal, juices and pastries, and I'm ashamed to say I made a pig of myself! Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and we were asked several times if we wanted any more coffee etc.
I stay in Hotels for work all the time and I was slightly reluctant to book a gust house as I imagined it to be akin to staying at a stern aunts house. Kirkcroft was more like a very small hotel. I felt far better looked after than any hotel, and the breakfast was far better!
We'll probably make a similar trip next year, and I've already bookmarked their website so I don't forget the name!
