I fully booked this hotel for my wedding on 19/06/2010 and I must say that everything was PERFECT. We were reassured from the start that this friendly, family and fun hotel was definately for us. The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is a problem for them. For our wedding they catered for well over 120 guests and all were very happy - A lot said it was the best wedding they had EVER been to.
The hotel has been refurbished in some respects but be rest assured that all of the rooms are clean, tidy and serve there purpose. I have the up most respect for the Management/staff and everything that this hotel has to offer, even prior to my wedding we stayed there on a further 3 occassion's and I would not stay anywhere else apart from the Solway Lodge when we return there in the Summer. If you have a big wedding party then this is defo the place to be. The Function room is amazing and everyone fab! I love this place. Have a look at the pictures of the function room on my wedding day. Honestly the best place to stay in Gretna. This hotel deserves much more credit than it gets.

My daughter had her wedding on Christmas Eve 2010. We had 12 memebers of family staying between Christmas eve and Boxing day, and I have to say the staff couldn't do enough for us. I spoke to Ian on many occassions before the wedding and never felt that I was hassling him. We had Christmas dinner at the hotel and the food was delicious and so much food !!! They made us feel so welcome and relaxed that we felt we could go to the bar in slippers!!! They tried their best to cater to every whim and we felt like we had made new friends. Thank you Ian, John, Brenda and all other staff, for a great time and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Stayed there for my Daughters wedding on the 27th November 2010 but we booked all the rooms from the Friday to the Sunday...Absolutley everything Ian said 'Don't worry everything will be sorted and taken care off' and my oh my it was..from checking in on the Friday and having different members of family checking in at different times to decorating the room on the saturday for the meal on the Saturday it was 1st class....
A really big thankyou to Ian,John and Brenda and the other members of staff who,s customer service could to be bottled and sold and would be very rich..lol...
At a time as parents know is stressful when there children are getting married nothing was too much trouble from catering for children,diabetics or vegetarians...if you want some where which is in pleasant surrounding with just as many lovely staff inside do go and spend a couple of nights there...BRILLIANT..

We got married in Gretna on 25th Oct and booked to stay here with my parents and our 2 daughters. The rest of our family were next door at a guest house. We cannot fault a thing with the Solway. We were made to feel so welcome. My dad even said you would've thought Iain and I had known each other for years!! I can only assume the bridal suite has been refurbished since earlier comments, as the room was gorgeous. Black 4 poster bed, black, gold and silver decor and mirrored wardrobe - really trendy. We had an amazing meal after our wedding, for all our family and I don't think you can get a better bargain of a 3 course meal for 18 plus wine, for around £400!! Everyone raved about the food and my parents said it was the best wedding meal they'd ever had! All the staff were very friendly and we took over the bar area for the majority of our time there; with 4 girls (aged 7, 6, 4 and 2) plus a baby, our group wasn't exactly quiet! And no one batted an eyelid. It was fab. Yes the motel side could do with a bit of modernising, as could the bar area, but I assume its being done, bit by bit as the bridal suite was lovely as was my parents room on their 1st night. Iain even arranged taxis for us for a day out on the Tuesday after our wedding. All in all, an extremely pleasant stay! And loved the lamb shank!!!!!!!!!
