my girlfriend and I stayed here for her birthday in mid october for one night and I couldnt fault it one bit. we were a bit late arriving so it was dark so we never saw the view until we woke up in the morning...and wow what a view. The meal was top notch and the service of the waitresses was brilliant and nothing was any trouble.
I dont know who the owner is but if its the guy who brought our wine or checked us out in the morning, he was extremely polite so I dont understand some of the other reviews.
a special mention for the tall young lad who was on reception. He was so nice and made us very welcome even though we were a little late.
We'll definately be back for special occasions as it isn't cheap but worth the money and it was lovely that they took dogs as our tara loved her walk along the beach

“Very nice setting, staff and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

We stopped here for lunch during a visit to the area - the building is lovely and set in a great location on the shore. It is extremely clean and well maintained and the staff could not be friendlier.

The building itself is quite old but it has been extensively modernised. Will definitely return when we are next in the area and I would also consider it for a weekend break away.

“Perfect autumn retreat”

Visited for three nights including dinner. The hotel, staff and food greatly surpased all expectations. Cosy real fires and beautiful wild sea views in public areas were welcoming and meant you could cosy up indoors all days if the weather was bad. The rooms were also high quality with lovely personal touches (fruit, choccies, teddy bear and magazines). The highest point though had to be the food - three consistently high quality dinners with every course a total delight, served by polite, friendly staff. Walking on the beach before breakfast or dinner is an added bonus - it literally is part of the garden. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

We decided to visit this area and stay at this hotel at very short notice and (having read the earlier reviews) were a little hesitant when booking as only standard rooms were available. We were given room number 18. Well it seems we needn't have worried and we saved ourselves some money because the room was absolutely perfect - spacious, well decorated, spotlessly clean and a stunning view over the bay. No point in paying more for a superior room.

This is probably one of the cosiest hotels we have ever stayed in. The public areas looked out over the bay and it was great to sit in the comfy lounge after dinner and watch the changing scenery as the sun went down. This hotel is also extremely private - at the end of a 2 mile no through road and yes, it is genuinely right on the beach (no hidden road between the hotel and shoreline). The hotel is very dog friendly and our two Scottie dogs Nessie and Sporran had a great time exploring the well maintained gardens and the beach.

I found the criticism of the service in some of the other reviews completely unfounded. I stay in hotels a lot on business and this was probably my 40th hotel stay this year so far. I therefore think that I am reasonably qualified to know what's good and what's poor service. The staff were very pleasant and courteous. The evening meals were of a particulalry high standard and you only needed to ask the staff to give you more time between courses if you wanted a very leisurely meal. No problem!

To summarise I would like to congratulate Mr Lamb on his professionalism and the running of a first class establishment. Everywhere was well maintained and spotless. I can not find anything negative to say about this hotel but would recommend that if you are a light sleeper - keep the windows shut or request a garden facing room. The dawn chorus from all the wading birds and sea birds was awesome!

We will absolutely definitely return to this hotel. Loved it!

“Certainly above average”

Really a very pleasant stay. The criticism of the owner in some of these reviews is over the top. Although it is perhaps more pleasant if the owner chats to you, that shouldn't be the b all and end all. Although somewhat reticent, he was perfectly civil and responded, albeit briefly when spoken to. And he was there all the time - which is more than can be said for some hotels. Perhaps his quiet demanour was a slight embarrassment at charging over £7 for a gin and tonic. The wines were all expensive, but then that's where they make the money. However, the food was excellent and the service perfect. The waiting staff have to be praised - they could not have done more for you. There is plenty of lounge area so no-one sitting close to you and the rooms were spotless as was the bathroom. The hotel was in good order, the grounds were very well kept and of course the views from the bedrooms over the bay, were beautiful. Yes, certainly above average.........
