“Birthday surprise for my girlfriend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Spent one night here for my girlfriends birthday as a surprise for her, she loved it! We stayed in the tipi. It rained all night but was nice lying in tipi listening to he rain. Good value for money and Pam and Mike were very friendly, because of the rain we couldn't make a fire but was still great. Sounds of the forest at night was good, although a little creepy ha ha ha. For food we drove into Dumfries (only a couple of miles) for a dominos pizza.

We will definately be back! Next time would take my bike to get advantage of the trails in the fores

“What a fantastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This was my first experience of 'glamping'! I must say, I do not often use trip advisor, but I did want to tell everyone what an amazing place this is! We stayed in the bunkhouse, which had en-suite toilets and shower, and was very clean, and also had use of the communal lounge and kitchen area, which had all the basic essentials and more! The wood burning stoves kept the rooms very cozy and inviting, especially after you have been outside!

The most amazing part of this place is the traditional Finnish outdoor hot tub and sauna, which made a fantastic experience overall. The owners were also absolutely lovely!

We did take a walk around to explore the Yurt and roundhouse, which were both very spacious and traditional. We will definitely be back!

“Truly epic birthday experience!”

I've just spent my birthday weekend with 14 friends in the roundhouse at Marthrown and, despite never having written a review onTrip Advisor before, I felt compelled to tell other people how amazing this place is! We had an absolutely fantastic time. We made good use of the hot tub and sauna at night, and the beautiful walks and bike trails during the day. Mike and family were very welcoming and we felt like he was on hand to help us out with anything we needed all weekend. The place is absolutely perfect for a group weekend away and we all spent less on the whole weekend than we would do in a normal weekend back home! Thanks a million Mike and Pam, we'll meet again!

“Great potential but dirty and expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

This a brilliant location for mountain biking and generally relaxing, but we expected more from the price and from the picture painted by the website. Our bunkbarn was reasonably equipped with 8 beds, 2 showers, one private loo and another next door. It also had it's own lounge area and a nice veranda with wood burning stove. Sounds great, but everything was dirty, the toilet walls ran with condensation so that the floor was wet through, the veranda was overgrown and not remotely condusive to sitting on and there was a dirty pair of pants hanging in the shower room! The showers were at least hot, but nowhere to hang clothing, towels etc within reach of showers.
We were also disappointed with the kitchen facilities which were dirty and messy when we arrived (probably due to large group in rather than owners). Bins/recycling facilities inadequate and nowhere to leave bags of food except work surfaces. Website states that a second kitchen has been provided so that self-caterers have space when owner is catering, but it seemed that all the utensils, pots, pans, plates etc were in the catering kitchen and we kept having to go and retrieve things from the other kitchen! As there was a large group being catered for at the table, we had to eat off our knees on the sofa. Another pair were on folding chairs in the kitchen eating off their knees. Seems a bit unfair that campers can get preferential use of the facilities like this when we were paying premium rates for the bunkbarns.
We took all our own food, as we are used to doing in bunkbarns, though there were many things provided. Perhaps the price reflects the fact that there is tea/coffee/cereal etc, but I wouldn't want to rely on them-some of the jams etc available were full of mould.
Hot tub is a nice addition, the woodland camping does look nice, but we would not stay here again at the prices charged. £12-£14 seems more appropriate or we would pay an extra £5 pppn and stay in a b&b with clean facilites, private rooms and breakfast included!

“Fantastic Place to Stay whilst Mountain Biking!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Many thanks to Mike and Pam for accommodating us (West Drayton Mountain Bike Club) in Upper and Lower Nith Bunkhouses. We had such a great time and loved the set up you have there (especially the Hot Tub/Sauna and covered BBQ) which we all made good use of. Everything is very much thought out and well equipped for our group of 12 ! would recommend it to fellow cyclists and others that enjoy the natural style of get away in the forests of Mabie!
