My partner and I spent Hogmanay and New Year in Dumfries, staying in the Ferintosh for 2 nights and I can not rate Emma and Robertson's hospitality high enough. We travelled by train and found Ferintosh literally across the road from the station. We were met by Robertson who welcomed us and showed us to our room which was bright and spacious, the bed was large and beautifully made and we had a lovely view of the garden.
Our door key allowed us to sneak in at about 2 am on New Year's morning where we toasted a great start to 2012 with our complimentary dram which warmed us up from the inside out. We had a very comfortable night's sleep before having a slighter later breakfast (due to the time of year) which suited us. The cooked breakfast was perfectly cooked to order (you have to decide what you would like the night before but I preferred this as I knew what to look forward to) and saw us through to dinner time.
On the day of our departure we asked for a later check-out (12 pm instead of 10 am and only £10 extra) as our train home didn't leave until 2 while Emma very kindly let us sit in the dining room until it was time to leave, rather than us wandering around town in the cold. She even offered us tea/coffee while we waited and joined in some interesting and entertaining discussions. I particularly liked the sound of their Kilted Pub Crawl as I'm sure anyone visiting would enjoy it considering the number of pubs in Dumfries!
We had a wonderful stay and I would thoroughly recommend The Ferintosh due to Emma and Robertson's hospitality and understanding of their guests' needs.
I should also mention the box sitting next to the TV, to be placed in front of the TV's standby light at night, as I thought this was a brilliant gesture especially as the light was exceptionally bright. A very thoughtful touch.
