“A little disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

I had booked the accommodation months ago. I was very precise with my booking request but when I arrived at the hotel I was given a single room. I had booked a double room for single occupancy. I was then informed by the owner, rather frostily that I had booked a single. I offered to show him the confirmation while he tried to find me another room. Impolitely he then decided to serve another guest while he was supposedly dealing with me. After a lot of huffing and puffing by the owner he gave me the keys to another room. I went upstairs to find that he had given me a twin room with single beds in it - what did he not understand about the term "double bed". Off back to reception I went and advised him of the situation and he pondered over the computer screen and said he didn't have any double rooms. I told him that I booked a double room months ago and that was what I wanted. He suggested that I have a word with another couple in our party to see if they would swap rooms with me. This guy is an absolute joke. Eventually he gave me the keys to a double room saying that he had had to move people around. The room was fine and it appeared clean and tidy apart from the dust behind the television. The bed was so so hard that I didn't sleep particularly well - this seemed to be a common problem with some of the other guests. We dined in the hotel and the food and service were both very good but the drinks especially soft drinks were absorbidently priced. There wasn't a guest lounge apart from the bar and when the bar shut everyone had to go to bed. We went out one night for a meal and when we arrived back at 11.15pm the lounge was locked and the place was in darkness. We were told by the friendly staff that we must take a front door key with us as "If it is locked you won't get in".
All in all the staff were very friendly and pleasant, the food was very nice and the breakfasts were great, served by a lovely happy lady but the owner left me feeling cold and I won't be hurrying back.

me and my boyfriend went out for a nice meal well it was suppose to be nice meal. we had our starter ( waited over 20 mins for our starter) food was ok not the best. the part that i wasnt happy with was the service the staff didnt smile ask if they could get you anything else or come back and check everything was ok, also we were sitting for over half an hour with empty main plates and the girl came and started clearing a table that no one was sitting at . at the end i asked to speak to the manager the girl replied its my dad if you are going to complain about me . I said yes i want to speak to him when the man arrived he didnt smile didnt introduce him self , i explained i wasnted happy at all with the service ( he spoke to me in front of his daughter) all he said was ill take it on bored , i said that i wasnt happy then his daughter interupted started shouting . In th end thats all he said ill take it all on bored he didnt appologise or ever crack a smile just goes to show how his daughter and other staff suppose to learn about good customer service skills when managment are not intrested to care about his customers complaints.

“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

Bed was too hard for me and the seagulls made for an early rise. Nice, clean rooms. Locations handy and on site parking excellent. Only stayed for one night and ate out at a local restaurant which was lovely.

“Good, clean accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

We stayed at The Moreig for one night as we were attending a wedding at the nearby Comlongon Castle.

We stayed in room 2 and it was very clean and tidy and was a good size for a short stay. It had two double beds, a flat screen TV with a good range of freeview channels, and selection of tea and coffee supplies. The boiled sweets and bottled water were also a nice touch.

There was a decent sized dressing table and a full length mirror which are always handy for ladies!

Breakfast was delicious and there was a good range - however, it was only served until 9.30am. There was a selection of warm items as well as cereal, toast etc.

We were warmly welcomed on arrival but the hospitality the following morning was a little less evident - however, this didn't affect our positive opinion of the hotel.

The Moreig is situated in a residential area on the edge of the town, there's a newsagents just round the corner and it was particularly handy for reaching Comlongon Castle. The area itself is absolutely stunning and we hope to visit again when we have a little more time to explore.

Overall a very clean family run hotel with delicious food that should be considered as a nice alternative to staying in a generic Travelodge etc. - thanks to the staff there for looking after us!
