“excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

On the spur of the moment we booked a room for £15.00 and then read the reviews on trip advisor, which caused us some concern. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of staff and found our room to be spacious and clean and on a parr with any other budget hotel that we have stayed in. We had a comfortable, quiet, good nights sleep, with extra pillows. For the price, superb value for money.

“If I could rate '0' I would!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel was awful. Run down, drab, depressing, damp, uncomfortable & unprofessional! Really wish I'd read trip adviser before booking :-( I will be writing a letter of complaint as I think they should be aware what is thought of the hotel. I am not someone who complains for the sake of it, I also review and write letters when I am happy with things. For example the next night we were in a Premier Inn in Edinburgh and I will be writing to them to thank them for making our stay so pleasurable.
To be honest I don't really know what to say other than I would advise not to stay here.

It was unprofessional on arrival, I went to the desk and said I have a room book under the name of Rebecca XXXX, she just handed me the key and said there you go, room 32 round the corner and up the stairs. To some this may seem like good service, to me this was very poor. No greeting, no asking for proof of who I was or for copy of confirmation, no telling me what time to check out, no telling me about Little Chef e.g. what time it opens etc.

We then got to the room, after the drab walk through the hall ways with a dog running around! Not sure where this came from as there was no-one else around! No secure lock on the door, the door wobbled when touched, it had an old style Yale lock. On entering the room it was baking hot! I mean boiling hot! Our windows were stuck shut, we couldn't open them without a great deal of force, so we turned the heating off immediately as there were also black marks up the wall from the radiator. The smell when entering the room was awful, couldn't even to begin to describe what it was.

We did not sleep a wink in this hotel, we lay on the bed, it seemed ok, this soon changed when we got in to bed... It was one of those that no matter where on the bed you lay, you rolled in to the middle, so we were both squished in the middle, and the mattress was very lumpy too.

In the morning I wanted to talk to someone on reception about our stay, however, there was no-one around so had to just do the key drop, hence the reason I will be writing a letter as this place needs a total refurb and more attentive staff.

Not much else to say really other than, wish we had stayed in the Premier Inn over the road and glad it was only 1 night!

Room Tip: Book the Premier Inn over the road!

“Run down and depressing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The green roof remains and the ambience around the Little Chef is depressing to say the least......just needs a total refit and it would be fine so who is conning the consumers....whoever actually owns it and they should be ashamed as the first such facility in South West Scotland.....no wonder folks bypass Dumfries

“OMG if this is what Travelodge is like never again....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We stayed in this travelodge after travelling over night from West Sussex for a family funeral. We arrived at the hotel ( if thats what you can call it) very tired after the funeral, we were all dressed in black and it was totally obivious where we had been. After being told we could book in after 2pm on the phone during booking, when arriving just after 2pm we were told we would have to pay an extra £10 per room ( we had booked 3) for checking in early. As we were so tired we reluctently paid this and went to our rooms. Well they were dirty smelly and awful, and after the rude and not helpful receptionist we would never ever stay at a travelodge again. I did contact the Travelodge company about how unhappy we were but didn't hear anything from them which just suggests how good their customer services is or isn't in their case.

Room Tip: Don't stay here ever.
