“Don't want to upset the bride and groom but !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We attended a wedding at Heltand and had use of 2 rooms the first was ok the second was really not very good at all including brown water out of the shower. The heating was hit and miss but electric supplementary heaters were provided as when the heating was off the room was cold. Now to the food the vegetables were raw not al denta I mean raw and that includes carrot and cauliflower more cruidites than veg. At the pre-wedding breakfast they managed to mess up the order for starter and dessert many of which arrived cold. For £16 a head the food was not to the standard you would expect. It was slightly better at the wedding breakfast but still not 5 star. The best thing about Hetland is the staff they are really friendly and helpfull but things still need work to be work better than an ok review.

Room Tip: There are soom nice rooms but not sure how you ensure how you get one

We had a small party of twelve, the bridal suite and other rooms were beautiful, all staff did everything they could to make our stay fantastic, could not have asked for anything more, we will be spending our first anniversary there, can not thank the owner, Marion or any of the other staff enough you all made our wedding just that little more amazing x

“Helped make my wedding so perfect!”

We stayed at Hetland Hall in October for our wedding, along with 32 family members. We stayed for 3 nights and I cannot fault the hotel in any way! The staff were beyond accommodating, and as the bride I was made to feel so special and relaxed. We got married at the Anvil Hall in Gretna and then returned back to Hetland Hall for a sit-down meal /reception. We was apprehensive about the reception as we hadn't stayed or eaten in the hotel before, but we were more than chuffed with the service and dinner. The food was lovely, and many of our family members still comment on the 'lamb' to this day! From the moment we arrived till we left, the staff were warm and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend staying here, we will definitely be back next year! Gemma & Daryl :o)

“Wedding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

We got married at the Hetland Hall Hotel on the 26th November 2011 and couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue or day. Whilst saying there were no minor issues would be a lie there was nothing that wasn't sorted by the very efficient and friendly staff. We can not thank Marion, Fiona (Jan) and all the staff at Hetland enough for making our day perfect.
We arrived Friday with 65 people and had the hotel exclusively for the full weekend. We booked all but 4 of the 30+ rooms and all were lovely and whilst some could do with a little bit of an update we are aware that the hotel has only recently been retaken over by the owners as the previous tenants left unexpectedly beginning of October. We are extremely grateful that all our wedding plans were honoured and that the team at Hetland worked hard to ensure we worried as little as possible. Our guests arrived to a warm welcome, lit candles and open fires, greeted as arranged with coffee, tea and mince pies. All our guests were happy with their rooms, the food was fantastic and the kids were allowed to run free!
The entertainment we had planned on Friday was all set up and ready and our guests were treated to a piper and karaoke.
Our wedding day was amazing and whilst we didn't get the snow we would have hoped for the boys enjoyed clay pigeon shooting in the morning (recommended by the team at Hetland) and the girlies hung around and decorated the ballroom for the wedding. Yummy soup and rolls were provided by the hotel as requested at lunchtime.
Having not seen it i was absolutely stunned by how beautiful the ceremony room was, lit only by candles for our 4pm ceremony and as i entered the room everything was just perfect and so romantic. This was followed by a trip in a horse and carriage, brandys and hot chocs for our guests, and when we were ready to move down to the ballroom for the evening all was ready and waiting for us. We had an amazing evening with hog roast, live entertainer and dj until 1am. Ever part of our day ran smoothly which could have only happened with the amazing care and attention put in by Marion, Fiona and the staff.
We too were worried after we read some of the old reviews on here but don't let them put you off this is a beautiful hotel, ideal for weddings and romantic breaks. We will def be returning for anniversaries the personal touch offered by Jan and her whole team is worth its weight in gold!

Thank you so much for making our wedding day perfect and for giving our guests a fantastic weekend away, you have 30+ return customers.
