Stayed here for one night last summer as our friend was getting married nearby the following day.

We chose it primarily because it was near the station and when we arrived in Dumfries we couldn't actually believe how close it was - it literally faces you as soon as you step off the platform!

The rooms were a good size, but the whole place is definitely in need of freshen up. It reminded me of an old people's home. While it was perfectly clean enough, the overall effect is of somewhere tired, old and a bit past it. (The bathroom was particularly miserable and the old rickety lift smelt bad and felt like it could break at any time!) I guess you could see this as charm and character, but to me it just felt like somewhere that was in desperate need of a good lick of paint.

It's fine for a night, and the proximity to the station is great, but I wouldn't want to stay any longer than that.

e stayed overnight in december on way to cairnryan ferry.we arrived early but room was ready and was comfortable and very clean.Had a lovely meal in the restaurant and enjoyed a good"craic" in the bar afterwards. Staff very friendly and efficient .We will definitely stay again.

Was very impressed by the staff, food and facilities here. A one night stay and a meal in the bar plus breakfast was enough to make me want to come back. The room was good- clean, tidy and with all facilities working well. The meal and service in the bar was excellent and so was reception.

I have stayed at the Dumfries Station Hotel on 2 occasions for a week at a time and was very impressed by all aspects of the hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful and warming and had time for all their guests needs and requirements. I was given a full rundown of all things to do in and around Dumfries during a day off which was very useful. The hotel is a beautiful building full of character with a wonderful staircase that made it feel out of an Agatha Christie novel! The rooms i stayed in were comfortable, cosy with good showers, comfy chair and desk.
The food was also excellent with a fabulous cooked breakfast and varied menu for daytime and evening meals.
What made it so special was that i felt so welcomed by all staff that by the end of the week it was quite sad to have to leave!
