“A great Find”

My Wife and I spend 2 nights at the Tontine Hotel in Peebles last weekend. The central location was excellent. The outstanding memory of the hotel was the freindly and efficient service provided by all the staff. We had dinner in the hotel and the food was very good, well presented and generous portions. The breakfasts were equally served to the same high standards The lounge was a bit tired however I understand there is an ongoing programme to update the seating along with some of the bed rooms. We were in room 31 situated in the annex which was accessed by a bright corridor. This modern extension to the hotel would not win any architectural awards from the exterior but our room was very comfortable, clean and spacious with a king sized bed. The ensuite had a bath with shower and was to an equally high standard. The room also had a lovely view over the River Tweed. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear will be quieter and will have lovely views over the river

We are grateful and thank you for taking the time to post a review. Very glad to read that you enjoyed an excellent stay and the food and service in particular. We are always grateful to all staff “going the extra mile” in making guests stays memorable. You are right about the extension although it does provide 20 bedrooms and soon to be re-named “Riverside Lodge”. Spent 2011 refurbishing 4 bedrooms together with all bedroom doors and corridors. Up-grade to Fire Alarm system also.
Refurb and up-grades seem to be on-going”
Thank you so much for your review and recommendation.
Gordon Innes.

hi my wife and i have just sayed at the tontine hotel in the middle of the high street just for one nite, free parking at back, anyway i never slag of a hotel nastily, but the food here was well worth the visit, very freidly helpfull staff can honestely say i think they all enjoy working there, the place for being at the end of january was very busy and a popular place with the young ,well not to young but was filled out for meals and the bars, ok so a wee bit of paint was cracked of or a worn area in a carpet stair, but they are on a revitalisation program , our room was modern ,nice decor and bathroom , but dont get room 5 on the front as there is a wetherspoon type pub next door and one opposite that when the locals come out they want to party on the strets , but hey dont miss out on this one for the food ,fantastic .oh out the back good river bank walks to be had and good shopping for a wee town .

Room Tip: dont stay in front of hotel to noisy at chuck out time

We are grateful and thank you for taking the time to post a review. Thanks for your kind comments. Refurbishment is “on-going” as you have noted and we have plans to refurbish rooms in the old original house this year and ladies rest rooms.
Interestingly, following a number of comments regarding front facing rooms we have talked to the pub across the road and are raising the issue of “noise”. This is really just a Saturday early Sunday morning issue and we hope to raise awareness regarding heading home “quietly”.
Thank you again for your review and looking forward to welcoming you back again?
Gordon Innes.

“Classic warmth, traditional hospitality.”

On this trip to the U.K., my stay at the Tontine in Peebles was my only "tradtional" hotel, and what a great example of country hospitality at its best!. The feel was most welcoming, staff were willing to serve. The room was very comfortable, nicely furnished and clean. Breakfast offered excellent choices, cooked to order, and they even supplied vegemite for this homesick Australian! Really enjoyed the open fire in the lounge as well, with wait service even for drinks! A room with a view of theTweed and nearby hills could be worth asking for - as will add to the feel of being in this lovely location.

THE TONTINE IS AN EXCELLENT CENTRAL HOTEL FOR PEEBLES. A warm and traditional feel awaits you when you walk through the main door, although the reception desk itself doesnt quite seem to fit in .The staff are really friendly and attentive, the food is excellent, be it breakfast or dinner and the lounge type area next to the restaurant is full of comfortable sofa,s and chairs. We had a large bedroom and bathroom and with our winter offer it was superb value !

Room Tip: the £5.00 upgrade is worthwhile

I have stayed at this hotel twice now and can't wait to go back. It is clean & comfortable, it needs some refurbishing which is on-going at the moment. The staff are excellent, the food is delicious, it is a lovely place to stay. I highly recommend it.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. We are delighted to hear that you have enjoyed your stays and hope to return to the Tontine. As you have noted, there are areas of the hotel in need of refurbishment, and this is an ongoing process – much like the painting of the Forth Road Bridge! Nevertheless we are happy to hear that our staff service, and our food have impressed you and we look forward to welcoming you for another visit in the hopefully near future!
Kind regards,
Kate Innes
