“Wonderful Hotel”

Yes it is up a old track but stick with it - its worth it. We had originally booked via the Groupon offer which went pearshaped. However we rebooked and stayed in the amazing Glenturret Suite. The double bath with champagne cooler and twinkly lights are just magical. The Food was TERRIFIC. Great quality. If we stayed close enough we would definitely go just for a meal. Peebles people give it a go!!!!

The NEW owners are so nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Please note that this hotel is under new management and they are working SO hard at updating the decor - the dining room is just lovely as is the library bar. It already looks better than it did and I'm sure that this will continue. We would definintely go back.

Room Tip: If it is a special occasion - book the Glenturret Suite. Its worth it.

“Up a dirttrack road, very dated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We visited Venlaw castle in September 2011 and were very disappointed. The road to the castle is an old dirt-track and not very well signposted to be honest.

On arrival, the staff were friendly but when we got to our room, I felt like crying! It was so dated and old, not in a nice way either!! Given the price you pay, I would recommend going up the road to Barony Castle - lovely!!

The food was good though and we did enjoy that but to be honest, the rooms ruined it for us. If your looking for a nice room this is NOT the place.. if you don't mind the room but like nice food then you might be ok with this.

“Fairytale castle”

Hubby and I went here for our 19th wedding anniversary in April and just hit the first of the warm sunny weather after a very long cold and snowy winter. This just added to the delight of Castle Venlaw with it's delightful gardens and fairy tale turrets. Lovely room with four poster bed, champagne , flowers and chocolates...... Hubby really pushing the boat out this year! We had dinner there and it was first class with stunning views out over the gardens. Staff were faultless and very welcoming. A few minor flaws if I have to be totally honest , breakfast service was Very slow to the point of almost grinding to a halt and the quality was not up to the standard of the evening meal.music would have been nice ,to drown out the noise of everyone's rumbling tums,as it did in the evening service and butter, not marg please for this quality of establishment. A few bulbs out in the bathroom so the mood lighting did not work which was a shame as I had been looking forward to a multi coloured bath! Minor niggles that in no way spoiled the whole experience but need to be attended to.

Room Tip: Ask for a turret room

“Perfect stay. Wish it had been longer!”

We first stayed at this hotel just over 2 years ago when we got married in Peebles.

This time I had a Groupon voucher and my husband and I booked a one night stay for Sunday 16th. Everything was perfect from the soup/sandwich lunch on arrival, to our room which was right at the top of the turret, which had everything you would expect or need.

We booked for dinner but asked if we could eat in the bar. A lovely table was set for us in one of the bay windows. The meal was one of the best I'd ever had, particularly the seafood casserole.

We had also taken our dog with us, for a £15 surcharge and he was made to feel as welcome as we were.

All in all a wonderful night's stay in a charming part of Scotland. We'll definitely be back
