“As good as the 1st time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

A return visit, offering a night of escape from a short visit to Edinburgh, its so easy to get to from the city being only about 25 minutes drive. Its set in lovely grounds and our room overlook the fields to the back with the Highland Cattle in it.

Drawing Room and Dining Room are on the 1st floor and are lovely, i took tea in the drawing room in front of a lovely fire and nearly fell asleep! Dinner was excellent and the dining room is
beautiful with a painted ceiling.

We then spent the next day exploring the region its well placed.

“Individuality and Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

On arrival at 2.45 (we were 15 minutes early) our room was not ready but we had the chance to sit and sip home made mulled wine in front of a cosy log fire in the bar.

We checked in and 3.30 and were shown to our room, which was in the attic area of the hotel. It had combed ceiling, fine for my husband and I at 5,1 and 5,8 but not so good if you are very tall. This was a standard room and had everything you would need for a pleasant stay. All the original features are in place like the sash and cord windows and shutters but with the modern convenience of central heating and flat screen TV.

The room had a lovely spacious bathroom, robes, Molton & Brown toiletries and nice fluffy towels.

The Tassimo coffee machine made a decent cup (no biscuits unfortunately) and still and sparkling water are provided for guest use.

Dinner is ordered in the bar area over a relaxed pre dinner drink and lovely little hot canapés (spinach veloutte, haggis bob bon and goats cheese - tasty little mouthfuls). The dining room is lovely, make sure you look up at the ceiling. The service is a right pace and the food was in my opinion really excellent. The venison starter was light and fresh, the sea-bass and risotto cooked perfectly and the chocolate fondant crusty on the outside, melting in the middle and perfectly complimented by the hazelnut ice cream. Home made hot bread rolls are also served..

I really enjoyed the food however the portion sizes at dinner were far, far too small. I was still hungry when I left the restaurant and I am not a big eater. A side of vegetables and potato would have made all the difference.

The breakfast had much more generous portions and a reasonable choice of options. Again the cooking was spot on with perfect poached eggs.

The definite selling point for this hotel is it's location, individuality, the excellent food and the charming staff who provide discreet, professional service and make sure your stay is a pleasant one.

The downside is the small portin sizes at dinner, the DBB and bar/wine tariff which is just a bit on the high side for what is provided.

“Last minute overnight stay for our wedding anniversary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My husband booked a last minute stay at cringletie House Hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary and what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be! We were upgraded from a classic room to a junior suite, free of charge, and were treated like royalty by all the staff. What a fantastically well run establishment this is. You can tell that there has been a huge amount of thought and effort put in to making Cringletie an unforgettable experience that you would just have to return to. Staff are clearly eager to ensure that everyone enjoys their stay. What a breath of fresh air! My husband had arranged a swedish back massage prior to our arrival and the massage therapist arrived right on time for my "in house" treatment. Our room was luxurious, with extra touches such as a decanter of whiskey and copious amounts of Molton Brown toiletries! There were also plenty of towels/face cloths etc, something that is often lacking in other hotels. Our food was out of this world, and served in an exquisite dining room. All three courses were of real masterchef standard, not to mention the delicous canapes we received prior to being summoned for dinner! I also received lovely handmade sweets to accompany my post dinner hot chocolate. :-) All this for a very reasonable £33 per person (Set Festive menu). Our wine was also of a high standard and reasonably priced also. Last, but not least, this hotel is set in stunning grounds, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We really did not want to leave! We will definitely be back. :-)

Room Tip: Peebles Suite has a lovely big bathroom, with roll top bath and separate shower

“Wonderful food, excellent service, NOT stuffy!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Cringletie on Sunday 11th December.

On arrival - the Hotel really is beautiful, set in its own grounds, lovely setting, you can park right outside. Very warm welcome where we invited to sit down while they checked our details and confirmed our booking, we were then taken to our room (we booked a Junior Suite via LateRooms)

Room
--------
Lovely spacious room with a small decanter of complimentary Whisky (which kept the husband happy) bathrobes and slippers were available for us to use (FOC) and Huggie (the teddy bear which you can purchase) was sat on the bed waiting! Bathroom was spotless and very large with Molton Brown products. The pillows and the duvet were feather which was great but they also offered an alternative if you wanted to swap them. Bed was very comfy.

Staff
-------
The staff really couldn't have been any nicer! A lot of them were French but spoke perfect english. They were polite and discreet but certainly not stuffy.

Food
--------
Fantastic, we opted for the 3 course Festive Dinner (£33) which was superbly cooked (they also provided some complimentary canapes) The wine wasn't overly priced for the standard of hotel.
We weren't intitially going to eat in the hotel fearing it may have been too expensive and also we hadn't brought with us our 'best' clothes, however it really didn't matter. We were made to feel welcome and the dining room was beautiful. In fact all of the rooms were stunning.
We went down to the Bar on the ground floor which had an open fire for an after dinner drink and again not overly priced, my husband ordered a whisky but he didn't ask for a specific one (we then looked at the price list and they ranged to over £20 a shot, luckily they just brought him one that was £4.50, again very reasonable.)

We had a wonderful stay and would love to go back again, definitely recommend to anyone staying near Edinburgh. p.s. I bought Huggie (coudn't resist)
