“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2007

We spent 3 very pleasant nights at Eildon House in April 07 Melrose is a very good base for the Scottish Borders: pleasant town, excellent walks and lots of good restaurants. Eildon House is a beautifully restored house offering luxurious B&B and situated in a quiet place, yet handy for the centre of town and river. We had a large double room with en-suite bathroom, all exquisitely furnished. David and Rosie are very helpful and their breakfasts were very good (all local produce). Highly recommended.

Stayed April 2007

“Warm and Charming”

David and Rosie made wonderful hosts. My parents and I stayed with them for a week-end in April of 2006. The inn itself is warm, well cared for, and very comfortable. It's located a short walk from several pubs, nice restaurants, the beautiful Melrose Abbey, and lovely shops. We also were able to get advice from David for several hikes in the area. Melrose is incredibly scenic, and has so many walks available--I was sorry to only have one afternoon available to hike! And the breakfast was hearty enough to sustain me on my big hike! I truly enjoyed my stay there and was sad to leave. I hope my travels take me back to the Borders and to Eildon House.

  • Liked — The hosts are very accomodating and considerate--Rosie picked us up from the bus station!
  • Disliked — Nothing comes to mind!
  • Tips/Secrets — Make plenty of time to walk around Melrose, and up in the hills. It's so beautiful!

“Luxury and Attentive Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2005

We stayed here on 28 August 2004.

An earlier attempt to make a recommendation on Trip advisor failed because the establishment did not have a web page.

This is the first season that David and Rosie Jones have been operating their B&B which is conveniently situated around 500m from the centre of Melrose. There is secure parking at the front of the house.

We were warmly greeted and, after being shown our rooms & offered the choice of duvet or blankets, invited to have afternoon tea with biscuits and cake in the comfortable guest drawing room.
All the rooms were clean & well decorated and good quality toiletries were provided in the bathroom.

David recommended a restaurant in Melrose town for our evening meal and made the reservation for us. We were not disappointed with the quality of the food which was inventive and well priced.

We returned from dinner to find the curtains in our room drawn and the bed clothes turmed back. The bed linens, towels and dressing gowns provided were of excellent quality The beds were very comfortable if a little soft on first impression.
A good quality TV with remote control was provided which allowed us to watch Kelly Holmes gain her second Olympic gold medal.

Breakfast, served at any reasonable time to suit guests' requirements consisted of cereals, fruits, juices, cold meats and cheese, toast, jams, honeycomb honey, as well as traditional bacon, eggs etc and smoked fish and kedgeree!! .. surely enough to suit all tates.
A freshly typed menu with the day's weather forecaste was produced. Cloth napkins with rings and excellent coffee (or tea for those preferring it) - always a good pointer to quality food - were provided.

The accomodation, hospitality and service could not be bettered. We would recommend a stay at Eildon House to anyone visiting the beautiful Scottish borders.
