My mother and Aunt booked a trip for New Year to Oban (via a well known coach tour operator), staying in the Regent hotel. As always i checked on Tripadvisor to see what was thought of it - and was horrified by the bad reviews...so much so i called the hotel myself. I spoke to a chap called David, who could not have been more helpful or honest. He understood my concerns and confirmed that they were aware there were areas requiring refurbishment, but promised that all rooms would be clean, warm, with good food etc. As the booking had already been made and paid they decided to go anyway.
Both my mum and aunt confirmed that yes, the hotel could do with a bit of refurb (especially the entrance) - but they had a fantastic time. Both their rooms were large, spotlessly clean, and warm. Ok some of the paintwork could be touched up to advantage. They could not say enough about the staff, not only David but all of the waiting and serving staff really went out of their way to be helpful to everyone. All of the meals they thought were excellent, and the party nights etc over the festive period were very well received. They did say that it was a shame that the hotel was left to become rather tired looking, but the overall holiday experience was one they thouroughly enjoyed.
