I have just read the review by Magiemac and am quite astonished at the comments regarding the hotel, the food, the cleanliness and the state of the foyer bar. I stayed at the Regent during the same period as the writer and my experience was totally different! I certainly do not recall being served turnip and boiled potatoes one night,never mind three! The food was very good indeed,with a varied menu each evening,including choice of sweets, and both the Christmas lunch and evening buffet were excellent. Like many old hotels,the Regent could do with some refurbishment, but I had a warm,comfortable,clean room and the bathroom was very clean. My only negative comment is that the shower was difficult to regulate in terms of water temperature.
As for the foyer bar, it has been renovated since my last stay at the Regent and I would not consider it to be run down. In summary, I had a very pleasant stay at the Regent over Christmas; the staff members were both friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and my accommodation was good. Value for money -Excellent. If you are reading this review,please do not be put off by the negative comments. If you stay at the Regent, you will find that any concerns are attended to quickly and courteously by the excellent staff.

We recently spent a 3 day break at this hotel. The windows in our room were dripping with condensation and covered in black mould, not to mention the dust behind the toilet. The dinner at night wasn't great and for the three nights we had turnip, boiled potatoes and the sweet choice was the same each night. The foyer/bar area were very run down with well worn furniture.
The positive points about our stay were the friendly staff, the view from our bedroom and the cooked breakfast.
During our stay I read up on the history of the Regent, which by all accounts was a popular classy hotel in its day, therefore I was sad to see how run down the building has become both inside and out.

i would like to say that i was most impressed with the staff and the warmth of this hotel.

I really wanted to like this hotel, I really did. The two stars reflect the fact that the staff are lovely and the breakfast was brilliant. Oh, and by Oban standards it was relatively cheap.

Otherwise, the hotel has, to put it kindly, seen better days, and it doesn't seem like it's had any money spent on it in a while. Our room had a wonky bed, a broken telly, and a frankly borderline dangerous shower. And a beautiful view of walls and outlets of ?aircon systems.

Potentially a great hotel in a fantastic location, but I don't think we'll be back.
