“New Year at The Kings Knoll”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My partner & i who are a young couple chose the Kings Knoll based purely on attempting to find somewhere with character, which encapsulated a flavour of Oban & experiencing something of the local community. We have stated at many of the hotels in Oban over the years including the Queens, Columba, & many B&B's.
After a bit of a gamble in chossing somewhere out of the norm, away from one of the larger, characterless, more well known hotels, we certainly were impressed in EVERY aspect of what The Kings Knoll offered.
Great staff, great service, & great food (nothing pretentious). The room we chose (22) was extremely spacious with everything catered for, including tea, coffee, biscuits, welcome package, hair dryer - for the Mrs, & of course the wonderful view!! The room was imacculate with no signs of misuse, dirt or damage whatsoever. The walk-in shower is massive also - you could swing a cat in there! Tom (the Manager) left a box of locally made chocolates & a bottle of chapagne chilling in the room for our arrival as requested. The local chocolates are delightful. It even included an Irn-Bru flavour one, haha!
The staff were amazing! Tom & Graham met our every need, even leaving the bar open later & met our request of sticky toffee pudding at 11pm at night just to accommodate us.
Overall a wee gem in the highland town of Oban & we shall most definately be back! :)

Room Tip: Room 21 & 22 are the 2 largest, most desirable rooms with beautiful, high-situated, panoramic se...

Hotel was clean, staff were amazing, and quick. I always say, if the staff are good the rest you can live with. But I was happy with everything. Cheers

“Great Hotel”

When we arrived we were made very welcome & shown to our room (21). The room was lovely, very spacious and cosy with a large shower room with a double shower.
The view from the room was overlooking Oban which was nice.
Breakfast consisted of continental plus cooked breakfast and was cooked to perfection.
Car park is a bit of an odd one but worked for us but can see problems if Hotel was busy.
My only gripe is that staying in room 21 is that it is close to the main reception & bar which resulted in other guests holding conversations outside the door after last orders which resulted in little sleep until they departed to their rooms.

Normally dont bother reviewing but had to for the Kings Knoll!

Just back from a fabulous stay there last weekend (9/11/2011-11/11/2011).

I will start off with the staff.....Tom,a legend and Graham, worth his weight in gold!! Nothing was too much trouble for these two and they both work so hard! The waiting staff in the dining room at breakfast were also lovely and friendly.
On arrival I had ordered sparkling wine and choc, yum! They were ready and waiting in the room.
The hotel itself is clean and well maintained. I was in room 21 which was perfect! Big room, comfy bed, nice decor, clean and spacious and also had a gorgeous view of the Bay.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and the fry up was cooked to perfection :)
Also sampled dinner at the hotel one night....I had the beef sausages, although a bit pricey, were lovely, my partner has the haddock and chips and thourougly enjoyed it!
Noise from above was a bit extreme one night and the car park is horrendous but apart from that, IT WAS GREAT!

Keep up the good work guys, I will be back!

Room Tip: AS seen above, room 21 is worth that little extra!

“Good Stay”

We stayed here just for one night on a Scottish Highland & Skye 5 day trip so we really did not have too long to judge the place. Oban was but a very brief lay over.

The Kings Knoll was a cheap and cheerful place and we enjoyed it. Room 21 is the one to ask for if you are a couple as its at the front of the house with a great view, on the entry level and probably their best room.

The single rooms at the back, where our 15 year-old stayed, was very small and nowhere nearly as nice.

The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was simple English. Cost was £135 for the 2 rooms for the one night. Free wifi was also available.
