“Best view wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed with the proprietors of Dunheanish when they had their first guest house in Oban some 8 years ago. Then, as now, guests are warmly welcomed and the stay is comfortable with a friendly and warm atmosphere. Nothing is too much bother and wine bottles are chilled, glasses provided and clothes dried. The house has spectacular views over the town and bay and the islands beyond.William is able to recommend and book restaurants and he has a great store of information about the local area. I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Dunheanish and would have no hesitation in recommending the accommodation.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are a must.

“Quality experience and great position- 6 stars”

We stayed in room 4. The best room we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot of rooms in a lot of countries. Enormous room, four poster bed, huge 'regal' mirror, fireplace (not on), chairs and table facing the expansive harbour views from the bay window. William was a gracious and attentive host. Smoked salmon for breakfast was fantastic with very generous serves. Would definitely recommend.

“Superb Accommodation and Friendly Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

A superb guest house with stunning views of Oban. We are made very welcome by Linda and William. Lovely rooms and the breakfast is plentiful and well cooked.
Thoroughly recommend a stay there.
Thanks for a great weekend.

Room Tip: Front rooms have the best views and a four-poster if you book in plenty of time.

“Not bad, missing some things”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

This is not an easy BandB to get in to. The walk up from the road in front is many steps and on a rainy day can be a little steep and could be dangerous. Parking in front of the house is an option, if you can find a spot. To park in their parking lot is crazy hard. The turn from the road is so sharp you hardly have room on each side of the brick walls. Mirrors in folks!

When we stayed here a few weeks ago, we were abit early and no-one answered the door at about 1:00. At 2:00 we tried again and we "checked in". The room was not ready but was given a key. We were confirmed into Room 5 which is upstairs with a seaview. Instead we were changed to Room 1 with no explanation given. It was on the main floor right by the doors.

This did have a seaview, but the curtains had to be drawn at all times as people walk right by the window and can see right in. This was disappointing as we wanted to be upstairs away from onlookers or other guests walking by. Being right next to the front doors was also an issue as they are big and heavy and guests coming and going made for some noise. It is also across the dining room, so some smells can waft in...

During check in I was not given a tour of the room nor was I informed of any instructions on the coming and goings of locking up, nor was I told about what time breakfast was in the morning. It was not until we buzzed down to William after supper to ask what time we need to get up at for breakfast did he say "Oh right". We could have slept right in. We were also not informed of checkout time either which we had to ask. He also took our breakfast order then, the night before. Yes I can see how this would be helpful for him, but I don't know what I feel like in the morning to eat. Do I really want eggs? or just cereal??

The breakfast room was clean and the food was good. William seemed to be more attentive to our needs in the morning, so we are unsure as to the lack of instructions the day before when checking in.

The room was a bit noisey as noted above. The bathroom was clean with good shower. However, there were things in the room that could be improved. No hooks for jackets inside the room....sorry I am not leaving my good coat by the front door. The TV was tiny and impossible to see from the bed. Also, when adjusting TV, cord came right out of the wall and took some doing to get back in. Not enough seats to relax.....only 1 seat in Room 1. There were 2 of us!

Maybe our experience would have been different if we were in the room we were origianlly booked into? Not sure. The walk up the steps is not for people with walking issues....I have a bad knee and was quite frustrated getting up all those steps after a walk about town. Would I stay here again? Not sure. I would try somewheres else first but I wouldn't rule it out if I could not find anthing else.

Room Tip: Don't get Room 1....it is main floor by the doors.
