My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend break in Inverary, booked direct with the hotels own owners Oxford Hotels and Inns at a cheaper price than the internet booking sites like late bookings.com so don't think you always get a better deal by using these because you don't always. It only cost £98 in total for the 2 of us for 2 weekend nights including full cooked breakfast, so at under £25 per person per night amazing value for money!
The hotel is perfectly located right on the front of Inverary across from Loch Fyne within very easy walking distance of all the attractions Inverary has to offer. Our room was spacious and had beautiful views overlooking the loch. It was spotless clean and had lovely fresh spotless clean sheets. The bathroom was all new, you could see that this had just recently been modernised. Plenty of power sockets everywhere which may sound silly to mention but I don't know how many times I've stayed elsewhere and they have not had enough, or near mirrors etc! There is also a great mirror on the dressing table and a full length one too which us ladies appreciate. Another great thing about the room is that it was lovely and warm and you could control the heat of the room yourself as you operated a very effective electric storage heater so you could have it exactly how you wanted it, not too warm or cold. There is coffee making facilities with tea/coffee/hot chocolate provided for you, we even had some shortbread. The room also had a good sized TV but we never turned this on to see what channels they had and there was also a handy radio alarm clock.
All staff in the hotel we encountered were FAB, very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, especially "wee Karen", as she is called. She served us breakfast every morning with a chat and a smile. The breakfasts were very nice and plentiful, if you wanted more of something all you had to do was ask. We had cereal and a full English every morning. They are usually buffet style but as they didn't have a large amount of people staying over it was freshly prepared for you when you ordered so even better. There was all cereals, fresh juices, and continental too if you prefered to have that. We had a meal in the bar and that too was good value and very nice, and service with a smile.
We would definitely recommend a visit to Inverary Jail. It is just under £9.00 to visit and you can spend as much time as you like going round. We spent 2.5 hours going round it all, very informative and interesting and well worth the money. This is a must see if you go to Inverary! Its great. There is a fab wee shop which you wouldn't necessarily notice situated to the right and slightly behind as you exit the jail building. It has many beautiful bits and pieces and gifts in it, its a lovely little shop and worth a look around. Unfortunately the Castle is not open to visitors in the winter months.
The George Hotel is also well worth a visit for a drink or a meal. We went there a few times and the meals were lovely and good value, although the attitude of one or 2 of the females serving us was not very welcoming or friendly at all!
Please do not take any notice of the negative reviews on here, it is very unfair to this hotel as it is great for the price you pay. I have never written a review before and would never do so but after reading the reviews on here before we went I felt I had to share our experience. Some folk you just can't please and they want 5 star hotels a 2/3 star prices! Book the Argyll, it is superb for the price you pay and you will get great value!
