“Fantastic Hotel, Would definitely recommend staying here...”

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend break in Inverary, booked direct with the hotels own owners Oxford Hotels and Inns at a cheaper price than the internet booking sites like late bookings.com so don't think you always get a better deal by using these because you don't always. It only cost £98 in total for the 2 of us for 2 weekend nights including full cooked breakfast, so at under £25 per person per night amazing value for money!

The hotel is perfectly located right on the front of Inverary across from Loch Fyne within very easy walking distance of all the attractions Inverary has to offer. Our room was spacious and had beautiful views overlooking the loch. It was spotless clean and had lovely fresh spotless clean sheets. The bathroom was all new, you could see that this had just recently been modernised. Plenty of power sockets everywhere which may sound silly to mention but I don't know how many times I've stayed elsewhere and they have not had enough, or near mirrors etc! There is also a great mirror on the dressing table and a full length one too which us ladies appreciate. Another great thing about the room is that it was lovely and warm and you could control the heat of the room yourself as you operated a very effective electric storage heater so you could have it exactly how you wanted it, not too warm or cold. There is coffee making facilities with tea/coffee/hot chocolate provided for you, we even had some shortbread. The room also had a good sized TV but we never turned this on to see what channels they had and there was also a handy radio alarm clock.

All staff in the hotel we encountered were FAB, very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, especially "wee Karen", as she is called. She served us breakfast every morning with a chat and a smile. The breakfasts were very nice and plentiful, if you wanted more of something all you had to do was ask. We had cereal and a full English every morning. They are usually buffet style but as they didn't have a large amount of people staying over it was freshly prepared for you when you ordered so even better. There was all cereals, fresh juices, and continental too if you prefered to have that. We had a meal in the bar and that too was good value and very nice, and service with a smile.

We would definitely recommend a visit to Inverary Jail. It is just under £9.00 to visit and you can spend as much time as you like going round. We spent 2.5 hours going round it all, very informative and interesting and well worth the money. This is a must see if you go to Inverary! Its great. There is a fab wee shop which you wouldn't necessarily notice situated to the right and slightly behind as you exit the jail building. It has many beautiful bits and pieces and gifts in it, its a lovely little shop and worth a look around. Unfortunately the Castle is not open to visitors in the winter months.

The George Hotel is also well worth a visit for a drink or a meal. We went there a few times and the meals were lovely and good value, although the attitude of one or 2 of the females serving us was not very welcoming or friendly at all!

Please do not take any notice of the negative reviews on here, it is very unfair to this hotel as it is great for the price you pay. I have never written a review before and would never do so but after reading the reviews on here before we went I felt I had to share our experience. Some folk you just can't please and they want 5 star hotels a 2/3 star prices! Book the Argyll, it is superb for the price you pay and you will get great value!

“average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

I stayed here recently for 1 night, this hotel is in a lovely location overlooking loch fyne and has massive potential however once inside you see the remains of what seems to be a once great hotel. My room was a double and wasnt exactly clean, the bathroom was carpeted and had a smell of mould from it, the bed was fairly uncomfortable to. Staff were ok a mixture of Eastern European and locals friendly enough but you get the impression that they're not overly interested in helping. In summary if you cant fine somewhere better stay here but dont expect it to be anything above average.

“enjoyable break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Hotel was typical of all small highland hotels now ,very tired looking and the rooms could do with a make over but the room was clean and the bed comfy. Bathroom was quite new and had a big walk in shower with lots of hot water.
We had booked ddb and the food was delicious and the plates so full we couldnt finish them.
Breakfast was buffet , but when we were there it was warm and very good.
We stopped at the Oyster bar for lunch on our way up, and the fish and mussels we had at the Argyle was way superior to what was served at the Oyster bar , rather a disappointment actually
The staff at the Argyle were so friendly , nice lounge bar
Great bar lunches for anyone visiting for the day

“Bed Bugs & CHARGED for 2 hours stay!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Just left the Argyll hotel a couple hours ago at 11:30pm with my sister and a friend. We'd checked into our two twin rooms at 9:30pm, and as we were going to bed at about 11 my friend found a red bug on her pillow. On closer examination, she found another in her bedding. My sister, in the same room as my friend, pulled up her bedding and found two on her bed. A fairly cursory check of the images under "bed bugs" on a Google search revealed them to be bed bugs. We called the front desk, and were offered another room. We knew we needed to get out of there, and told the front desk staff we were leaving. As we were checking out, the English girl at the front desk handed me a receipt to sign for the two rooms for the night. I said, "You have bed bugs, and you want to charge me?" and she told me that as they'd offered me a room change I was under obligation to pay. I didn't sign the receipt, but doubtless she has charged me. I find my experience outrageous. STAY AWAY from this hotel. Even before the bed bugs were discovered we were commenting on the awful state of the place. The window shade in my bathroom was moldy and disgusting, the drapes were nearly as bad, and the carpet looked to be thirty years old and carrying the dirt to prove it. This hotel should be CLOSED.

Room Tip: You'd be better off sleeping in your car.

I am surprised that you chose to share this important information on tripadvisor rather than contact me to ensure any problem could be addressed in the best interest of future guests. Fortunately we do take note of the comments left here and can ensure a thorough investigation and any appropriate measures have been take.

Your report regarding bedbugs has been fully investigated by pest control specialists as this is certainly not a report we have had in the past. I would like to assure all guests reading this that the hotel does undergo regular inspections by our housekeepers, our own pest control advisors and the usual external EHO visits. None of these visits has ever raised cause for concern.

If you would like to contact me I will arrange for a refund of any charges made for your room as I agree if you didn’t stay it would be unfair to charge. I would ask in the future, whilst you are perfectly entitled to leave your comments on here, such serious allegations should also be brought to the attention of the manager immediately.

“Best Break for ages”

We arrived earlyt and were offered tea and coffee. Our room was ready as promised and what a great room. we had a view but also as we were at the side of the hotel we also had some privicy and. Bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic. Sorry about the shower but the staff were there to lend a hand. Food was so good that we did not bother eating anywhere else. the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble even when i decided to move tables.
infact we stayed during the heavy rain and wind in September and had a power cut but that added to the break and all the guests were shouting around the corridors to each other with doors open to get the light from the emergency lighting.
We actually enjoyed our stay so much when we had too change our plans we went back again and were welcomed just the same and the food was just as good. Thank you all for a great break

Room Tip: room 211 or 212 were great with brilliant bathrooms
