“Maybe not so ideal in winter ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Arriving in late December at 4 pm makes the whole experience a bit sinister: it’s dark outside, nothing oft he praised view outside left ... We knew the house from 20 years ago and not so much has changed – only our room (a junior suite with small garden towards the parking) was modernised and very comfortable – even with a second TV on top oft he bath tub.
Dinner was mixed impressions: December 23 certainly isn’t the best of all dates to experience a cuisine’s possibilities, but that day the level was rather modest. What makes tings worse, is he rather „un-cosy“ and frosty atmosphere in the restaurant – and maybe the fact, that literally ALL staff are from Poland and, which does not help to create a particularly cheerful SCOTTISH ambiance.
So, all in all, we’re a bit biased – but maybe it was just the wrong day in the wrong season?

Thank you for your review. We take all feedback as constructive and aim to make corresponding changes wherever needed. However, I do feel I should address one comment as it could be construed as misleading to others.

Throughout December, we had a total of 16 staff; 9 Scottish, 3 English, 2 Polish and 2 Hungarian. Of the 2 Polish, Pawel has been with us for the last 8 years and has worked his way up to the position of Assistant Manager. The other Polish employee, Michal is now in his second year with us after completing his hospitality studies at university.

I take recruitment extremely seriously, as it is primarily our staff that creates the atmosphere we want for our guests, and make the job of management easier.

As the 23rd of December was particularly quiet, there was only a requirement for 2 Front of House staff, however, between them they have over 9 years experience at this hotel.

Yours sincerely,

Graham Steven

“Superb Christmas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We always go away at Christmas with family and this year decided to try a new venue and decided to try Airds where they were doing a 3 night package which seemed to include everything we wanted for a christmas break and we were not disappointed. What we wanted was shere relaxation and good food and this was exactly what we go. Many hotels put on a lot of events and try and make you join in(!) but here there were one or two activities but if you wanted to just relax and chat then this was fine. We arrived on Christmas Eve and there was a lovely champagne reception followed by an excellent dinner. On Christmas day we were greeted at breakfast by Graham and Pawel who I have to say are a real credit to the hotel and they were always there to make sure that we had everything we wanted. On our table at breakfast were a couple of presents which we thought was a lovely touch and very generous. Christmas dinner was at 4o'clock and the atmosphere was lovely as was the food - what was really nice was that christmas puddings came out for each table and were lit at the table. In the evening everyone was ready to relax and chill out and even though proably everyone was full the staff still came out later with more food served in the lounge so that we did not have to move - what perfection! Boxing day was again relaxing wth another great dinner in the evening. It was such a delightful christmas and we all went home so relaxed and full and planning our next trip.

“Intimate and sophisticated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

This was our second visit to The Airds and it really is simply superb from the level of service to the standard of food from the cream tea when we arrived to the stunning 5 course dinner and canapes beforehand and the overall sophistication of the place. Breakfast was simply divine and such a good choice on the menu. We stayed the two nights before they closed for some refurbishment and their plans sounded exciting - although I couldn't see any problem with the existing decoration! The area is stunning and the half decent weather we got enabled us to do some really good walks.
We are looking forward to our next visit.

“Good place for walkers and foodies!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

We have just enjoyed a 3 night break at the Airds which was wonderful, helped also by some lovely weather which was rather unexpected. We chose this hotel due to its excellent reputation and also because of the walks which are possible to do straight from the hotel without having to get in your car. We flew into Glasgow airport and then hired a car and the journey from the airport to the hotel took just over 2 hours but is an incredible journey – we decided to go through Glencoe which was the right decision as the scenery was simply stunning.

The hotel itself from the outside is very modest looking but once you get inside it is so warm and welcoming with a real fire to welcome us and staff who were so attentive. In fact the staff were terrific throughout our stay and very informative about what to do in the area and could not have been more helpful in helping us plan our time there. The food equally is superb and being what I would describe as ‘foodies’ we were not disappointed. When choosing a hotel food is always an important aspect in helping us decide where to stay. On one of the evening we also went for their tasting menu and this made the evening even more of an occasion – we also had their tasting wines which accompanied the meal and I have to say that they went very very well – well done to whoever chose them. Definitely worth a stay here.

“Yet another amazing trip to The Airds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

I've just returned from my 3rd trip to The Airds and once again I've not been disappointed at all. Despite wondering whether the food would be as fab as before - The Airds have recently got a new chef - I'm delighted to say that it's even more delicious than before. I ate at the hotel every night and, believe me, my waistband has expanded in line with the amount of stunning food I managed to consume. My "usual" bedroom was sadly occupied by another (I had booked last minute) but I was just as comfortable in my new bedroom, with stunning views over the loch. Every little detail was thought of - from quality sheets to gorgeous products in the bathroom. The weather didn't matter as there are wellies provided for you, and picnics in rucksacks if you so wish to brave the elements! I loved meeting with the other guests before dinner in the public areas and met some truly special people. Shaun & Jenny, the owners, couldn't have made me feel more welcome and I can't wait to notch up my 4th trip as soon as is humanly possible.

Room Tip: Any of the loch view rooms, of course, provide the best sense of being in stunning landscape
