“Wow!”

Stayed at Castleton House back in July when it was only recently converted from a hotel to an exclusive use venue.

David the owner met me at arrival and showed me the house and the facilities and I was delighted to see there was a snooker room!

The rooms and beds are very comfortable and I loved staying for a few days at this excellent place whilst on business in the Angus and Perthshire area. David knew I was staying on my own and we played many exciting snooker games during my stay.

Next time I'm hoping to stay with my friends and beat them with the snooker tricks I learnt from David!

“Perfect house”

I cannot praise Castleton House enough! When we arrived the day before my son's wedding at Glamis castle, our expectations were exceeded in every respect. The bedrooms were all ensuite with beautiful furniture and tasteful decor. The beds were supremely comfortable and the entire house cosy, warm and comfortable. As we were a party of 12 celebrating a wedding we were delighted with the huge kitchen adjecent dining room and Bar!! It saw a lot of celebrating over the two nights we stayed.
It was the perfect place to stay and I think we all felt quite sad to leave. The whole party had a fantastic time and the owner David could not have been more helpful gracious and hospitable to us. A word too about the location of the house so peaceful and pretty. The garden was lovely too. I just can't wait to go back. Thank you David for making the weekend the best ever!

“Castle ton house our new holiday home”

Just back from the best family holiday weekend we arrived Friday and left Monday. All our expectations and needs were met"
A warm country welcome in the hall with Devine staircase and so big we could not find each other. The bedrooms were wonderful with each with their own bathroom bigger than kitchen at home lol we felt like princes and princess, David came in a few times and said hello to everyone and made sure we had all needed" the kids played in snooker the ladies in the front room with the fire on and all of us around the bar dancing and singing. We had a huge dining area and sat round chatting and laughing nit something you can do in your own home with 12 of your family members and of course the dogs too, a weekend we will never forget ever
Very downtown abbey thank you castle ton house! The Ovens and Alexanders

Room Tip: Arrive when it's daylight x

Thank you for the lovely review but thank you even more the lovely tartanscarves that you so kindly gave to David and myself. It means a lot to us that you enjoyed your stay so much, as we are just in our first year of holiday lets and a eager to get things right. It is lovely to have the house used and loved again. Best wishes to all your family, sorry I never got to meet you. Verity Webster

“A good stay, but inconsistent in the dining room.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2009

My wife and I went for a 'one night romantic' DB&B package which overall was very good value for money. Our room was excellent in size. The main reason for our visit was for the dining. Solid, but could have been so much better with a few adjustments. Arrived in the comfortable drawing room for a pre-dinner drink. 'A Kir please'. "What's a Kir?" (is the polite response). mmm! Next, (to a different member of staff), 'a bottle of Viognier please', and for the red, can you advise me if the Cotes du Rhone 2001 is good one?' "Nobody really knows, except the owner, but eh it is fairly popular". Don't get me wrong, the staff were very nice and attentive, but training is crucial if you want to compete against the 'Airds' and 'Isle of Eriska's' of the world. That said, the wine list was very good value indeed. Then the food. Both starters (A type of Salmon terrine and a Scallop dish) were sublime, as was the two types of beef in a port reduction main course (unfortunately not warm enough, but not cold enough to return). The dessert was only reasonable, however, the biscuits and cheese regained the lost ground again. A fabulous breakfast (the best bacon and sausage I've had in a long time) rounded off a good all-round dining experience. Small negative in the morning being staff related again, as the (very polite) individual didn't know the 'fish dish' on the menu, and had to toddle off to the kitchen to find out. Jesus, it's not rocket-science, surely this type of pre-service preparation should be part and parcel of the staffs' remit. As I haven't stayed at Castleton before, I wasn't sure if this was a hotel which is on the way up, or was on the way down (for some reason I think the latter but may be wrong). However, don't get me wrong it was still a very enjoyable stay, but a slightly frustrating one, as I believe that with some additional attention to detail it could be so much better and realise it's underlying potential.

“Great food”

Didn't stay overnight so can't comment on rooms. Visited for a meal - prompt welcome on arrival, quickly offered drinks and given menus. 4 starters, 4 mains, 4 desserts, all of which sounded great! Brought a plate of nibbles with our drinks. Tables well spaced out, plenty of room for everything on table (not always the case with most restaurants!). Food brought out promptly, service attentive but not obtrusive. All local staff (which is refreshing these days), very friendly. Quality of food and presentation were first class. Admittedly not huge portions but ample. 3 courses for £35 per head, house wine £3-ish a glass, bill for 2 including after dinner drinks almost £100 but totally worth it. Will definitely visit again. Hotel has the air of an exclusive "house party", think other diners were staying overnight, all very friendly.
