“Friendly good quality hotel on Forfar High Street”

Enjoyable clean and smart hotel with parking at the rear. Warm welcome and very attentive and helpful staff. Good quality en-suite bedrooms, a couple more coathangers would be good. Excellent Head Chef can cope with any amount of covers and clearly this is the best restaurant in Forfar. Book to ensure a table or the locals will beat you to it. Very reasonable wine list well supported by the very good front of house team.
Very good breakfast again with attentive and cheeful staff. Talked to other people staying at a nearby hotel and would suggest from that conversation that if you cannot get into Chapelbank, best dont stay at all!

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

I always write honest reviews for hotels, and I'm sure if the owners read this they will remember me.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights recently as part of 40th Anniversary trip as we lived in Forfar for 5 years back in the 70s. Forfar is not endowed with good hotels and the Chapelbank is probably the best. It is well located and has free parking to the rear.
When I booked I stressed that it was 'special' stay and was offered room 1 which is supposed to be the best room at the front. On arrival due to a mix up this room was already let and we were given room 2 at the back.
This room is small but perfectly adequate with good views over the hills to the north of Forfar. It was clean and had all facilities needed, however the bathroom was very small and a bit scruffy. The shower was ridiculously small and you can hardly turn round without banging your elbows. Getting in and out of the room with cases is a pain as the door at the top of the stairs is too close. There is no telephone in the rooms but they do have free wifi.
The key we were given to get back in from the front did not work and we had to ring through to the housekeeper each time.
Breakfast was the best part, excellent and freshly cooked with lots of choice served from 7 - 10am.
As mentioned earlier by a reviewer, 'boutique' it is not. However a very adequate hotel but about 20% overpriced. It was more like an upmarket B and B.
Dinner was very good with excellent service from the young staff, but not big enough portions and a bit pretentious for us.

Room Tip: Room 1 I believe

“Perfect....”

We have been eating out in Chapelbank since it was re launched a couple of years ago, we have never had a bad meal or service.

So when my partner turned 30 it was the only choice for a family gathering.

Owners Susan & Dave have a "no problem" attitude when it comes to customer service and were great at putting together a menu to please all.

The Chef Colin has been around the area for a good while and everyone in the area knows they will have a good if not exceptional meal.

On the day, it couldn't have gone any better, staff and food were all great, wish i had staff who went out of there way to up sell drinks........

Thanks very much to you all.

“Really nice hotel, we would return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

We stayed for one night to attend the Glamis Extravaganza, the room was huge! and really clean and nicely decorated, we didn't manage to eat in the bistro but all the tables were full with guests.
Had a lovely sleep and the bed was mega comfy, breakfast was from 7am till 10am, which is great if you don't want a really early breakfast, the breakfast room was very nice and the breakfast was lovely, the owner took time to speak with us, which i think is important and makes you feel welcome, we would definately return and would recommend to our friends.

“bad service to match bad attitude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

Hi there,

We have had many a meal here in the past incorporating an array of owners. The current ones have no idea in service or people skills. The food tries to be special but falls at many hurdles.
Would we go back, yes under new owners.
