“a very disappointing stay”

Did not like this place at all - arrived to find it covered in scaffolding, awful and very overpriced food, 'ensuite bathroom' was a cupboard with a sliding door and a toilet that didn't flush unless you took the top off the cistern and manually depressed the ballcock - at which point it started a 30 minute refill, builders woke us at 7.00 a.m.

The hotel was closed in January 2010 when scaffolding was in place. Consequently this review should be treated with caution as the reviwer did not stay at the hotel in January as stated in the review.

I stayed here with my sister and dad for almost one week.

Fiona Calder served breakfast every day and we enjoyed her accent and sense of humour.

This is an interesting place as it is a very old building and there are washrooms in the hallways and midway up the staircase and a shower room down the hall - I suppose for the non-ensuite rooms.

The rooms are plain but VERY clean and the showers were great (ours was ensuite)! The only really negative thing I could say is that I found the mattress uncomfortable as I could feel the springs digging into my back but my sister shared the bed with me and had no complaints.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay!
