“Good low cost option for Aberdeen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I thought I had reviewed the Summerhill before but maybe not .... I stay in Aberdeen on business quite regularly and the hotels through the week are extortionate. Providing you can get a room at the Summerhill for £60-70 it's good value compared to the alternatives. The location is not very good other than for easy access to the main roads, it's a bit out of the way with few amenities nearby. It looks like Beirut on the outside, but inside the hotel is perfectly nice, and the rooms are immaculately clean, reasonable sized, and well equipped, with free wifi. Breakfast is fairly poor, hot buffet with reasonable quality ingredients badly cooked. Overall though I would recommend this hotel for the business traveller.

“Awful, avoid this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Where to start!

At check in they tried to charge me £20 more for the room per night than my company had agreed with them. They then tried to charge me for breakfast, which was included in the price.
I was then given the wrong room key.

The hotel is tired and dirty and the service at the reception, bar and restaurant is appalling. Restaurant menu was a sheet of white A4 paper, which was to be found laying on the bar, not on any tables. Half the dishes on the menu were not available. There were five in our party and we each ordered steak as the main course only to be informed that only four steaks were available!!!

Breakfast was a comedy of errors, food poorly cooked food which was either burnt or half cooked. On one morning the staff failed to show up on time and the table had not been cleaned after use by guests who had eaten earlier.

On returning to the hotel one night and encountered bags of rubbish in the only lift. Whatever they contained was foul smelling and this forced me to use the stairs. I would have reported this to the reception, but as usual, no one was around.

The hotel has no car park. The only place to park your car is in a small car park to the rear of the building in a small car park surrounded by local shops and neds, best of luck finding a space, not that you'll want to park there anyway.

On check out they managed to get by bill wrong yet again.

DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL. It make Faulty Towers look good.

“The charm, look and smell of an hospital”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Very limited choice available on that day, all my usual hotels were booked.
First finding this place is a challenge for most GPS and the hotel staff was not very helpful. You need to enter 125 Summerhill road to find the place.
After 15 minutes in the hotel, I realized that it has the look, smell and charm of an Hospital. Room was very clean with a strong smell of disinfectant, The bed was very small, but comfortable.
WIFI was free and good enough to get my e-mail.
The bar and restaurant have to be the most depressing place in Aberdeen. Food was decent at best.
the staff was good, I felt sorry for them to have to work in such a sad place.
One suggestion, that big empty bar called "the conservatory" would look much better with a few plants (even fake ones) and please change those 1970 furniture.
Free parking in the back of the Hotel.

“Overpriced Aberdeen at its worst”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011 via mobile

I stayed here because the usual place was booked. From the outside it looks like a prison. From the inside it looks like a 1970s film set of a hotel in benidorm. The staff were fine and the place was clean. Nowhere to go and I wouldn't really fancy risking it. At over £100 a night including a corporate rate it is ridiculous. If I stay here again I will survive but I wouldn't choose it.

“family room at the ghost hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Arrived to find our family room was occupied by other guests although we never saw any other familys during our stay.Given 2 other rooms which was not suitable as our son had to sleep on his own.Breakfast on first morning was dried up, limited and ab awful, chef and waiter left mid meal to go for a cig break!!!!!!.Our rooms were not cleaned for the entire stay, no refresh of coffee etc, the staff were non existant, no evening meals available,-No cooked breakfast on second day(although that was what paid for) - continental breakfast offered was laughable,no signs of any other guests and only 1 staff. No hair drier, no ironing board.Saw 2 other guests and 3 staff the whole stay.Parking was in a public car park which did look a bit dodgy but fortunately no problems. There was certainly some sort of private club underneath hotel which had decidedly strange looking people standing outside doors at all times.
We were awoke both mornings at 0430hrs by large lorries delivering goods to the nearby frozen food store. This went on for 1 hour.

Room Tip: Don,t stay at this hotel
