This room was booked via laterooms and is called Aberdeenarms rooms, so although the Aberdeenarms does have accommodation, I don’t know if the pub actually owns this room as the key has to be picked up from a nearby house.
The correspondence after booking was great. Good clear instructions and a nice letter. We had booked a twin room and upon initial arrival, everything looked fine, but when you start to look closer, everything is not at all fine with this accommodation. There are pant splashes all over the place, the laminate floor doesn’t match up leaving gaps between the slotted boards, and these don’t quite reach the walls. There is a mix of furniture and some strange wooden step against the one wall, which I think hides the pipes from the bathroom. The wallpaper on the ceiling has been added at some point and have obviously run out as this doesn’t meet the one wall.
The beds were clean, which was great. Everywhere needed a thorough clean and dust though. The wall mounted tv didn’t work – every channel was pixellated and we couldn’t find a single one that worked. The website does say that there is sometimes noise from the pub downstairs, so we were prepared for this but clearly the floors are paper thin, as are the walls because we could hear everything being said next door.
The bathroom – I don’t know where to begin…. The bathmat and the mat that goes round the toilet were filthy. They looked like they had been walked over with muddy boots. There were no toiletries, which weren’t necessarily expected as this was budget accommodation, but there was a bar of soap, a used bar, covered in hairs. The sink was covered in hairs, as was the floor and the shower was full of hair and dirt. The plughole also didn’t drain. The bin in the bathroom already had rubbish in it. The plastic shower handle was broken and cracked, so when you turned on the shower, water came out of the cracks and barely any through the nozzle.
The information stated no breakfast, but there was apparently self catering cooking facilities in the room. A microwave, a kettle and a toaster, this seems to be missing a vital piece of self catering equipment, an oven/stove/hob. Even though this was reasonably priced, it needed a thorough cleaning, and also needed work doing to make sure it didn’t have that building site feeling. Unless you are completely stuck for accommodation, go elsewhere.
