Really tasty, well presented, well cooked food. It's a simple menu presented and cooked to a very high standard. Pub grub has never tasted quite this good. Service is efficient and very warm in places, although one waitress seemed a little nervous of the toddler we were accompanied by. The sticky toffee pudding was the nicest I've ever tasted.

The toilets were very clean too. We didn't stay there though.

I started staying at the Udny Arms last summer, and this was approx my fifth visit, since.
As far as I'm aware the hotel has been under current management for approx 18 months, and I get the impression that the current team are working hard to improve it.

Although the bedrooms and public rooms could do with a bit of a face-lift, I've always found the bed-rooms clean and comfortable. The main attractions for me here, is the quality of the food and the rooms represent excellent value-for-money. (Much better value than over-priced Aberdeen city centre, which is only approx 15-20 minutes drive away).

With regards to the dining experience, I have to say the Angus fillet steak is one of the best I've ever had. The simple cod and chips is also one of the best I've ever had, and the breakfasts are very nicely cooked and well-presented. The wine list is comprehensive enough and there is and unsurprisingly, an excellent selection of malt whiskies.

I would happily recommend this hotel. If the rooms and decor were up-graded I would probably rate as excellent.

We have not stayed at this hotel recently but we have eaten there on several occasions in the past year. The new owners (late 2010) have brought the standards up significantly from previous years. The food is excellent and all of the bedrooms have been or are in the process of being refurbished. (It is a work in progress hence only 4 stars at the moment). The owners have ambitious plans to further improve the place, and they have already gained 2 rosettes for their restaurant. The owners (Gary and Mandy) and the staff are all very pleasant and welcoming and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone now whereas if you had asked me 2 years ago I would have given it a big thumbs down. Hats off to the 'new' Udny Arms. The hotel backs on to the Ythan Estuary and Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club so the views are fantastic.

We did not stay at the hotel, only visited for lunch. The menu offered an excellent choice of local seafood and other food which was well cooked and presented. The staff were attentive and professional and friendly. This was a good experience of well cooked and presented local produce at a reasonable price - enough to tempt us back.
