I've stayed at The Douglas on two occasions. On the first, I wasn't too sure where it was, so I booked a taxi. We live and learn. I could have walked there in a good five minutes. But the taxi driver didn't tell me that!
Aberdeen is a very grey city, which, when the sun shines, is rather like a smile breaking out on the face of a grumpy man.The memory lingers. The city doesn't have much overt glamour but, cevertly, if you go looking (and are prepared to walk some distances) there's much to entertain.
The Douglas has a rather inconspicuous entrance on a narrow street but, once in, a welcoming presence: and friendly staff.
My room was very comfortable, with a very large sofa (had I wanted to entertain-which I didn't) and there's a quite America "feel" to its design. Well, as both Aberdeen & Glasgow just love American culture, that wasn't a surprise.
I enjoyed my stay; and the price of the room was very reasonable.
I ate in the hotel's Bistro, in the evening, ordering fish and chips and looking forward to it. Disappointing; and the beer battered cod tasted rather tired!
Nothing wrong with the breakfast, though.
Would I rest my head there, again? Yes, I would.
