The reviews of this hotel are a typical example of how Trip advisor readers can get confused. I always advise new people to Trip advisor to read reviews subjectively and try to spot when personal tastes cloud the facts.
However I had to admit I was a bit wary when I read some recent reviews after my partners sister booked this Hotel for a family surprise for their Father's 80th birthday. I can say without question there was no need to worry. Staff are efficient, friendly and attentive, the junior rooms we were in were spotless and very comfortable, and the general ambiance was very Downton Abbey and should NOT be spoiled just because some travellers prefer modernity. There are plenty of Hotels that now cater for this. Yes bar prices are a little more expensive than some, and the food is a touch over-priced, but as long as you accept this before you go it hardly merits a complaint. It must have been passed on by the member of staff that checked us in that this was a surprise 80th, and several members of staff wished him a happy birthday in the bar and in the dining room which was a really nice touch. A really nice relaxing stay.
Room Tip: The junior rooms are all new and very well laid out
