“Take Chewing Gum with you”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

Never before have I been glad of having come to the end of a piece of chewing gum so that I could use it to refix the window dressing. The toilet in my room (in the "old" part of the hotel) had nothing covering the window which left me exposed to the building opposite, the road below and the nearby walkway. The blind had fallen off and had to be refixed with aforementioned gum. The sink had no plug. There was a hole in the floor under the carpet. The glass didn't fit the window frame so there was a gaping hole. Despite this, the room was too hot. Very noisy. Cobwebs in the bedside lights. The new flatscreen TV only had 3 channels working. The lift stank. The food was ok for deep fried fodder. The decor was stressful throughout. A cheerful sign as you enter informs you that the proprietors reserve the right to search you for drugs at any time. What a godforsaken place. NEVER AGAIN.

“Absolute Rubbish, bad food.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

Stayed here for a few days during the week. Room was outdated and extremely badly lit. Felt like I was in a halfway house, toilet fittings were falling apart. The restaurant, if you can call it that, was horrific. The food was so poor that I had to leave it. Lucky for me the shopping center across the road had a host of PROPER eateries. Please dont even bother with this place!

Don't stay here, the hotel is a complete rip off. The decor is shabby and dirty and needs gutting really, this must have been a beautiful building once but that was a while ago.

First off the parking facilities are very poor, not a lot of room and not gritted despite the snow. Had to park further away in a public car park and walk to the hotel.

On arrival was handed my key, told I was on the fourth floor and then informed with a smile that the lift was out of order. Seeing as I was carrying three bags and had just come out of the snow having walked from my car I was waiting for an offer of assistance but that wasn't offered, rubbish service seems to be a hallmark of this hotel.

The room is spartan and pretty miserable, my window looked out onto a part of the roof, a brick wall and chimney and there was rubbish and cigarette butts strewn out there. There was no room service menu or any info on the hotel to be found in the room.
The bathroom had been modernised but was looking tatty already, the shlef above the sink was already hanging off.

Breakfast was one of the worst i've had in a hotel for a long time. Poor quality and lukewarm food and really cheap and watered down orange juice.

Please save your money and stay somewhere else! This is a backpacker hostel at best!!
There is a Jury's Inn opposite which looked much more pleasant and has the same great location as the Station Hotel, I'll be booking it next time.

“If desperate its a good location but try and get the "new" part otherwise go somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Pictures on website look great, the reception seems promising then it all starts to go downhill... The receptionist was completly uninterested and sent us on a Fawlty Towers tour of the building which resulted in us leaving the lovely new part of the building and descending into the old part which (stunning in its day I'm sure) is pretty much hideous. Our room was large but utterly drab, old fashioned with a great view of a stairwell. The toilet dispenser collapsed upon using, the beds smelt and the journey to the room went past half kicked in doors. If they did the rest of the building up like reception I would go otherwise just dont. There are better and cheaper places. That said the breakfast was pleasant enough. Its definitely handy but try asking if they have done any rooms up to look like the reception area and if so book it. Award yourself 10 points if you can get the receptionist to smile!!

“excellent value,great staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

This was the third time I have stayed at this hotel and it gets better and better; The staff are very friendly and professional, taking the utmost care to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. My room was excellent ,very comfortable and well decorated, On may home on the train I realised I had left my hearing aids in my room, a kind lady with an I Pod got me the hotel telephone and I made contact with my mobile; The staff were most helpful and by the time I got home some hours later there was a message waiting for mr from the hotel to say they had found the aids and would post them to me.
