“Lovely hospitality if a bit shabby”

We originally booked a room in Angel House but were moved just across the street to Serendipity because of a problem with our original room. I can't say enough about the warmth and hospitality of our hosts. My husband and I enjoyed our conversations (although brief) with both the father and son team who serve the two B&B's. Breakfast, while not the best we had in Ireland, was well done. All in all, Serendipity House was a functional place to stay for our visit to Derry, particularly to tour the sites associated with the Troubles and Bloody Sunday. However, our room itself was nothing special -- infact I might describe it as a bit shabby. While I loved the cute little lampshades on the bed tables and the brown accent wall, small things could have used a little extra TLC -- mildew in the shower and bubbling paint due to water damage, dirty strings for the light pulls, and a stain on the comforter. While we don't necessarily regret our stay, I would caution people reading the reviews not to have too high of expectations on the condition of the house.

“Clean, great location, quiet, and great view of city.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

On our arrival on 14 October 2010, we were met by Stephen, who was very helpful and accommodating. After carrying our heavy bag up several flights of stairs, he let us select our room, where we had a wonderful view of Derry. Out room, althought compact, was clean and comfortable. As the location was in a residential neighborhood, parking was on the street in front of the B&B, but was plentiful. The walk to town took 10 minutes, where we found the employee's and patrons at the pubs and restaurants accommodating and friendly. A slight drawback was the uphill walk back from town, which might be challanging for the infirm or elderly. Stephen cooked a delicious breakfast for us on our departure.

“Very comfortable, staff very helpful and close-by to the town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

My stay was very pleasing, the beds are very comfortable and staff so helpful on where to go and what restaurants are affordable and good quality of food. I would recommend to stay here its a five minute walk from the town and is a quiet area for a good night sleep.

“friendly and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

My first thought was that the photographer for the web pics was brilliant! My room was on the "compact" side, but the bed was big, warm and comfy. The room was a wee bit cold on my arrival, but it did warm up nicely. The shower is great! The tea, coffee, milk and sugar supplies in the room were a wee bit sparse, but I am quite sure that if you requested more, it would not be a problem at all! Oh, and maybe I have been spoiled in other b&bs, but a biscuit or two wouldn't go amiss, along with some simple toiletries... Glad I brought my own! ;)
Stephen was friendly, helpful, and nothing was too much bother... breakfast was great! He also tells me that he and his dad are about to set about some redecoration over the quiet weeks coming up... Can't wait to see what they have done on my return there!

“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2010

B&B was clean, had asked for a double ensuite and got a family room which made it a bit crowded but we just put our bags on the twin beds. Not sure where you'd store your things if you really did have a family of four in this room, however!

The bathroom was lovely and modern, and the room was well decorated and the TV and remote worked! There was no street noise, and it was nice and warm after getting quite miserable weather during the day. We got onstreet parking right in front of the door as well (although I think we were lucky!)

The view of the city from the deck attached to the dining room is unreal. That alone made staying here worthwhile. Breakfast was the standard Ulster fry but there were good options for continental breakfast.

I also had free wifi for the smartphone which was handy!
