“Best Hostel EVER!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

Staying here really made my trip to Derry! It was perfect - friendly, clean, fun, excellent facilities, warm, good movies, wonderful staff , and good place to make new friends! Derry is an awesome city to visit, even in winter! Great pubs and live music ( the hostel staff might offer to take you to see some live music - go with them! you'll love it). Also, the Free Derry Museum and Peoples Gallery are really close to this hostel and totally worth the visit. Stay here!!

“best hostel experience in Ireland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

My girlfriend and I just did an 8 day road trip through Ireland. We mixed cheap hotels and 3 hostels on our trip. We booked this hostel for 2 nights through hostelworld. On arrival we thought that there was a mistake as we were given our own small twin room. The room was small and basic but as we had originally booked an 8 bed dorm to save some money this was a great deal for us. Jeffrey, the hostel manager , gave us a quick tour of the building. The previous reviewer gives a really good and true discription of the building. He then gave us a map and the lowdown of everything to see and do in Derry. What really made this hostel was the relaxed atmosphere. Everybody seemed so at home when we arrived and it was very easy to make new friends very quickly. Everybody from the hostel went out together around about 10pm every night. Jeffrey picked some pretty good pubs. He seemed to know alot of the singers and musicians. We honestly wouldnt have set foot in the Castle Bar on our own. It was a real dive bar, but Jeffrey led us all in there and the singer, Dano, was brilliant. There wasnt an Irish song that he didnt seem to know. This hostel oozes class. Its so small that you feel that you are really at home almost as soon as you arrive. We will definitely be going back.

“much better than a hostel, more like a guest house for backpackers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

My partner and I had the pleasure to stay here during our our 3 week trip around the emerald isle this August. Derry ended up being the unexpected highlight of our trip. I think that we had originally planned to stay for one night but this hostel and the staff kinda kept sucking us in for just one more night and we were sad to leave in the end after 4 nights there.
The private rooms for the hostel are located in a beautiful old house around the corner from the main building. They only have around about 5 or so rooms. You share the 3 bathrooms with the other couples. One bathroom was small but had an antique bathtub and the other 2 bathrooms had modern shower suites. The lounge room was hooked up with tv and internet, which was free. They had a super cool movie collection with over 500 movies or so.
The highlight of the hostel though was the kitchen in the basement. It was where you would meet every one and hangout. For a hostel. it was simply superb. They had an old gas range and a big oak table where everybody would sit around at night , glasses of wine in hand swapping travel stories. The kitchen ran out onto a sort of glassed over conservatory area and out into a beautiful garden where they had set out tables and chairs. You could sit here in perfect tranquility and never know that you were slap bang in the middle of Derry City centre.
There were barbeque evenings held in the main hostel most nights after which everybody in the hostel went down to the pub. The pubs in Derry were great and the staff brought us out to quite a few different ones which mostly had live music and very friendly locals.
We have to say a big thanks to Geoff and Kylie. They really seemed to go out of their way to make sure everybody, not just us, made the most of their time in Derry. Thanks a million guys, hope you see this review, we will return!!!

“Great hostel, in a great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

Stayed here during the Jazz festival last year and had a blast. The hostel is very quirky, full of furniture that the owner has collected on her extensive travels through Asia. Breakfast is your usual basic, tea, toast and cereal affair and it is only a short walk to the centre of town. Each night there was something on because of the Jazz festival and the owner made sure we all felt welcome to tag along with the group. From what I can remember (beer related) we had a great time.
