“A very Child friendly hotel but not for couples”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Oh dear................. very disapointing to stay in this hotel on the Halloween weekend.first and foremost Londonderry is a very young city,Nothing but children everywhere! the pro of this hotel = the location is excellent, right beside the centre of the town. (And an honorable mention goes to the size of the rooms they are huge compared to anywhere in Dublin/Belfast for example so a point for that) A four star it may be officially but i never felt it to be like the four star hotels l i have enjoyed in Germany and the UK. the real problem for me seemed to be its pool. The pool is very small (and about 4 foot deep from one end to the other....child friendly but practically useless for an adult to swim in).the Jacuzzi is able to hold two comfortably, maybe three.I used the facilities one morning and the next morning the same empty plastic cup was lying in the same area.in my one hour in the pool ,up to 20-30 different children (and their parents) came and went, sharing the pool with me,the screams and general messing about by these kids was not my idea of relaxation! at one point a local family took over the pool for a game of water softball (just try to complete one solitary length without a nine year old jumping on your head!)the said family spread out over the whole pool to finish their game then got into the jacuzzi forcing me and my girlfriend out of it.Halloween is huge in the North and it was Mayhem the days we were there(In fairness Halloween is the CASHCOW of Londonderrys tourist trade.) The bar however, is excellent and the four star quality is there in spades, well dressed bar staff turned out brilliant cocktails but the hotel is quite dated and really nothing to write home about but the biggest gripe for me was the pool,oh and if hoping to use what looked like an excellent gym bring your trainers or you wont get in and ditto for the pool, make sure you bring a swimming hat or they will sting you for a fiver for two hats.Thats nothing unique, health and safety these days, all hotels have this clause,a final gripe about this hotel, the room was incredibly hot even with the heat off! I tried to get some fresh air but it had,yep...........child friendly locks on the window which open a few inches only! did i even mention the noisy weddings?Yep this hotel does weddings,If however you are looking for a quiet experience and a weekend with your partner or loved one sans children then this hotel is perhaps not ideal! (example: at ten pm there were still Children in the Foyer and the bar crawling over the seats beside me and under my chair!!) Overall a hotel that is really for families and Weddings and I woudlnt stay there again.

Room Tip: we got the back of the hotel which gives you a lovely view of some roofs and chimneys, alleys and the...

“A difficult one”

We stayed at this hotel over the course of the weekend. At first we were extremely impressed with little touches in the room such as complimentary soft drinks, snacks and water. We ordered room service on both evenings as the food was of an excellent standard and the room service so reasonably priced. We were staying in an Executive room on the fifth floor and the music from the ground floor room caused our room to vibrate from early evening until 1-2am both nights. Noise is not what bothered us but the vibration of the room. When phoned down was told basically that it would be over in a few hours and to basically wait it out.

“Highly recommended!”

We have just returned from our second visit to this lovely hotel and are sure it won`t be our last. The staff are so warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. We had a huge room on the sixth floor with wonderful views over the Peace Bridge and the Guild Hall clock was handy to keep us informed of the time! Breakfasts are self-service and there is a great choice available. We had a meal on the first night using the 2012 menu which was excellent value, two courses for two people plus a glass of wine each for £20.12 and for just a little extra you can enjoy a third course, if you have any room left. We used the leisure centre facilities and were provided with towels and lockers as part of our package, and the free car parking is great. The hotel is situated in the centre of things yet quiet enough for a good nights sleep.

“Very good at what it does.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

A very nice hotel, all staff pleasant, rooms clean and tidy, if you can imagine a holiday inn but with a more personal warm touch, you have it, and the restaurant is certainly better than a chain type hotel. Enjoyed my stay and would certainly stay here if I ever have to go back.
