“Quaint and perfect.”

As a local of Downpatrick I have always been partial to Denvirs as an entertainment spot. Live music from the best talent Co.Down has to offer and all the locals and characters that attend there. Anyone familiar with the scene will know who I'm talking about. From the lovely blonde lady who always sits in the bar and chats to anyone and everyone to the musicians who prop the bar up.

I love eating out as I have this affliction.... I would poison myself with my drastic attempts so I have eaten in Denvirs many times. Admittedly I can remember years ago this spot wasn't the place to eat but over recent years with new ownership and a new chef the food and quality is next to none and I love it, whether it be a Sunday roast, full dining or a meal deal, it's cooked properly and is delicious.
The people who work here are great and always game for a laugh. i.e. walk into the restaurant and there is a crayon picture I did of a member of staff on the wall. Little welcoming things like this are what people look for.

Lastly. Recently I stayed over night for the sake of it basically, only living out the road. The rooms are lovely and complete the scene. With all the times I've been here I wondered why I had never even asked to see them. Long story short when it came time to plan my families New Year celebrations, we booked dinner for all relatives and those who are travelling WILL be staying here on my recommendation.

“Noisy and Run Down”

We stayed here on the weekend of the 9th September as we were attending a wedding nearby. The room was very basic and we got no sleep for 2 nights as you can hear everything thorugh the walls, even people snoring next door. There was live music on both evenings and the noise was unbearable in our room. Breakfast was OK but I couldn't wait to get out of this hotel. Would not recommend. I now understand why it was the only hotels within 10 miles which had a room available for the weekend.

“Pity about the chips”

Had a meal in the restaurant and couldnt believe it when they served me chips that were not cooked fresh. Instead they had been flash fryied like you would get from a chip van. I can easily tell the difference as I used to work in a fish and chip shop and this was done for speed. If you are going to charge restaurant prices you need to do better.

“Could be a great wee place to stay if only it was a bit cleaner...”

Stayed here for 1 night while visiting Downpatrick on business. Staff were lovely and the hotel itself was quaint - but sadly it was not very clean. It would not have taken much effort to change this. We ate dinner in the restaurant and that was very good as was the freshly cooked breakfast in the morning.

“Dusty and overpriced for what it was”

We stayed here as we were at a wedding in tthe Ballyduggan Mill but unfortunately there were no rooms left there so stayed in Denvirs. We checked in between the wedding service and reception to leave our bags. The gentleman that showed us to our rooms was very pleasant and apparently we were given the best rooms as 1st to check in (room 1 and room 3), Room 1 was spacious but not very clean. Although we appreciate it is an old building it could have been cleaned better as there were dead flies by the windows and floors were quite dusty. We decided not to have a shower also because the shower didn't look very clean! However even if it was there was no hot water either that night or the next morning!!Room 3 was an absolute horror and felt bad that my sister had to sleep here...there was a thick layer of dust all over the room and a terrible smell of damp. There were cobwebs practically everywhere!! There was clean bedding and towels in both rooms and because we were under time limits to get back to wedding we decided this would have to do. When we came back to hotel after wedding there were 6 of us that were at wedding that were locked out!!! A key had been broken in the door but as we were the only residents there that night god only knows when it happened. There was noone in the hotel to let us in therefore another guest managed to lift my brother up to the window of my room at the front of the hotel, which thankfully I had not locked and break in ruining his shirt in the process!! The next morning we came down for breakfast which was alright however they do not know how to poach eggs therefore I wouldn't recommend these. When we checked out we told the girl what had happened the night before and there was barely an apology never mind a discount for our troubles! Her reply was "yeah I believe one guest didn't get in at all"!! At £70 for double and £40 for single I do not think this is worth the money and would certainly not recommend staying here to anyone. I cannot comment on the restaurant food as we did not eat here.
